What Route Does Your Local Airport Need Most?

Thu Apr 29, 2004 8:13 am

What route do you think should be added to your local airport...and by what airline?

JFL needs more domestic destinations, (currently being fulfilled by jetBlue). But there is still a long way to go! Internationally, would like to see more flights to Asia.

YUL: AC to keep 2 x daily LHR, CDG and AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA. AC to keep YYT, YDF. New routes to come: TLV and FCO. That's my wish list!

Would love to see any airline pick up the route:

Kansas City- FLL or West Palm Beach- Kansas City

Vanguard ran this route and had great success...I know SWA has it but not nonstop...I would like to see Spirit or Frontier or even SWA pick it up...actually I would love to see anyone pick it up....

COS-IAD by UAL(A319). We have a lot of military folks going to DCA/BWI/IAD, with three bases in the area, would be nice for European travel as well.

PDX needs a non-stop PDX-JFK again I think, as well as a PDX-MCO non-stop. There are a LOT of families that go to Disney World.

PDX-JFK used to be served non-stop by Delta. I've heard some rumor from a Delta F/A that they might start this up again...but it's speculation I've heard.
Next Flights: 12/31 AS804 PDX-MCO 2/3 AS19 MCO-SEA QX2545 SEA-PDX

JFK-PDX may be opened by AA too. They'll serve from JFK what is unavailable at LGA.

At HPH, now that the 738 has been approved, if AA can get the slots, HPN-MIA would work extremely well with a 738.

LHR needs serious modernisation in T1, T2 & T3. T4 is cool and T5 will be cutting-edge, but whenever I go through the other terminals, it feels dirty and grimey. Also, I think an innovative way to cut down the delays is seriously needed. Heathrow has world-class delays!

KOA needs a route from any Midwest city. UA only goes as far as DEN. Maybe NW should start service from MSP or DET. There are lots of people looking to get away from the cold!

SJC-LHR on BA would be a nice site. Even better if it was on a 744.

What would be the chances of seeing one of those bad boys here?

From PDX we could use flights to JFK, BOS, PHL, MCO, and various points in western Canada. We could also use more flights to HNL too......

From MOD, QX MOD-LAX on Q400s. That route would be awesome. From SFO though, I would say TG SFO-BKK, EI SFO-DUB, AZ SFO-MXP, SQ SFO-SIN n/s, QF SFO-SYD, LA SFO-LIM-SCL, RG SFO-GRU-GIG, AI SFO-AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA-BOM, or PK SFO-HKG-KHI. SK SFO-CPH would be a great route addition as well.

Personally, a dream would come true for me if Nassau/Bahamas became one stop of an around-the-world flight (like PA's flight no. 001 and 002, in the good ol' days), other stops would have to include, Berlin/Germany and Sydney/Australia. I'd prefer it to be done by a Star Alliance member.

However, I have a feeling that there's no real NEED for this that could fill anything bigger than a small GA aircraft  Sad

BUF needs:

mainline to DC Area and LGA

Service to the northwest or at least DEN with connection possibilites
Service to Florida i.e. FLL, PBI, TPA, MIA (good O&D on all these markets)
Service to RDU - strong O&D to this market, one of top 10 or 15 from BUF
Service to Texas - AA starting mainline in summer and keeping year round with RJ service to DFW

To be honest, I wish USAirways would start RDU-BWI, RDU-TPA, and RDU-BNA to directly compete with Cattle Call Airlines (Moo-Air).. I think USAirways would do okay. At least good enough to do 2 flights a day on each.

I'd like to see AM operate a daily flight into CVG from MEX. CVG-PRG would be cool too, on either DL or CZ, but I think the MEX flight has more of realistic chance by far.

I think GFK needs direct service to both Norway and Germany. Maybe a DC-10 from NW on a GFK-OSL or a GFK-AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA route. Maybe even UA or AA would fly a 767 on those routes. God knows we have enough Norweigens, Scandanavians (aren't they the same?) and Germans in the area to make it work!!! One can dream!

But then again, any service other than to MSP would be cool.

I agree with MSYTristar - MSY/CUN. It's only about 600 miles, almost a bus route.

MSY would be a great connecting point for people flying in who don't have service to CUN, and the same, in reverse, for passengers from Cancun going to other destinations in the US.

cheers

I'd love it if AUS had a nonstop to DCA, but I don't think it will happen.

I also wish ABI had westward flights instead of just to DFW and IAH. It's odd (and time-consuming) to fly to IAH and then to LAS. I'd like to see Mesa do an HP Express flight with an ABI-MAF-PHX or ABI-LBB-PHX routing, but that's a pipe dream for now.

As far as DFW is concerned, I'd love for non-stops to more international destinations, especially in Europe and Asia ...

From MIA Manchester UK from AA BA VS or BMI. AA), Japan">NRT on AA or JAL. PVD on AA
AVL on AA. Brussels too on AA. Maybe AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA on AA. Some others PDX,SAN. And JFK with Jet Blue. I will take any fpax flight to Asia. Since MIA does get Air China 747-400F.

FLL. LHR or LGW with VS or BMI. LGW with DL if now BA VS or BMI. Jet Blue to NAS with 190! DL to SLC or SCL which ever one they chose.

Miami has everything already.. Good grief! you can fly to Mars on AA from Miami! LOL.. And then head to Brazil for a vacation.... I tell you what Miami needs.. do something about their security screeners. You can't even walk aroundthe other concourses to check out the a/c without security stations blocking you. Then, if you have arrive in one terminal and have to go to another.. it's back through security again. And those lines aren't short!

From PVD:

MIA - AA
IAH - CO
FLL - WN/DL/NK/US (more than just the sat. only nonstop)
PBI - WN/DL
LAS - WN/DL/US
LAX and SAN could be done with a 757 pretty much only because of PVD's short runways...
YUL - AC (1900's would be fine)
JFK - AA (Eagle) or DL connection
STL - some form of AA
ORF - WN/US

PHX definetly needs some more flights to Europe besides BA's flight to LHR. We used to have the lufthansa flight but they stopped it because of poor passenger numbers. I will never forget my First A340 but anyway the biggest problem with PHX is no Asia flights but the good news is that ANA might start service to PHX with their new 7E7's... I cant wait

Speaking of GFK,
We need any new carrier in here to compete with Northwest to make flying out of GFK close to affordable, instead of the arm and leg it is now. American Eagle starting service to ORD would be perfect for me, non-stop to home, but one can only dream...

Well I would like to see ORH - Worcester Massachusetts...
GET ANY FLIGHTS!!!!!!

There has not been commercial travel to ORH for well over a year now. Prior to 9/11 the following routes were flown

DL(ASA)
ORH-ATL

AAEagle
ORH-JFK
ORH-ORD

USexpress
ORH-PHL
ORH-LGA
ORH-ALB

UAexpress
ORH-IAD

COexpress
ORH-EWR

PANAM 3 also flew here on some odd routes to PMS and Harrisburg I think?

There were more routes in the early 90's, but I am too young to remember. Also so of these routes were cut prior tp 9/11 like ORH-IAD,EWR,ALB, LGA. But the others were thriving. DL had 3 daily CRJ's going to ATL, AA had 2 or 3 ERJ's to ORD and US had 5 dash-8's to PHL

ORH built a brand new terminal a few years ago which is very nice. There is just too much competition between PVD, DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL, MHT and BOS. What really hurt commerical flight to central Mass. was when PVD renovated and WN moved there and DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL and MHT. People in the area were/are willing to drive less than an hour to get better fares. Now with direct access from the Mass Pike(I-90) to Logan in Boston it is a quick and easy 35-40 min ride from central mass. That may be the death blow to ORH. There are many people in this area, but just too many airports too close to support 5 all within an hours reach from Central Mass.

Steve and mariner-

I think you're on to something with the MSY-CUN market. Seeing that F9 has announced intentions to serve CUN via overflying DEN, this would make a lot of sense. Start it off as a Saturday only service like STL, MCI and SLC.

It could be a lucrative "bus route".....via either the 319 or 318 bus perhaps.

I would think that CO has a decent market share on the CUN traffic out of MSY. Just an educated guess though.

IAD - Independence CRJ 3x daily

Erj170: While now Councourses A-E you do not have to go through security again. AA changed it because of Connections. Also new terminal for AA is going great and Councourse J for Star Alliance is going good too. Cant wait. Yea sure Miami has alot of flights to alot of places but we still dont have a Non-Stop or even One stop flight to Africa or a Non-Stop flight to AA), Japan">NRT. The more the better!

At MKE I would like to see YX restart non-stop service to SFO. Other larger markets that don't have a non-stop are SEA, PDX, SLC, and MIA. Other than that I believe there is a non-stop to just about every major metropolitan area in the country.
