A-380 Can Deeply Isolate Crew

Fri Apr 30, 2004 1:39 pm

I just read on my daily Airwaves E-mail that Airbus can configure the A-380 to deeply isolate the crew against potential threats.

Any ideas on what exactly that configuration would be? It sounds to me that there will probably be a compartment somewhere for the whole crew. I wonder where?

Of course, they are not releasing any details due to security considerations blah...blah...blah...blah.

Well at least the crew will be safe in their panic room when some madman starts capping off passengers.  Insane

To be completely honest all of the stuff that airbus has to say is great but currently it would seem stupid for any airline to invest so much $$. Bars, shops, places to eat.... Great or you can cram seats wall to wall (floor to floor) and get a bigger profit. I think this is like the 747 where it was all the hot stuff but if any airline wanted to make $$ off of this they won't do such things.

To me it is like the Concord, great a/c runs great, gets there quick, and only a few accidents. But it only holds 100 or so pax yet will cost them what 8 flights will earn to maintain. If this is how airbus is going to offer the 380 than I would only see these in Asian carriers and FEW to none EU carriers. NO US Carrier can afford this, they can't even get themselves whats already in production....

Perhaps they can separate the cockpit from the rest of the aircraft

Gerardo,

"Perhaps they can separate the cockpit from the rest of the aircraft "

I guess that's precisely what they have in mind. I think it would be weird although it's true that a lot of trains work like this: impossible to reach the driver.

I guess that the pilots will then have to make their own meals, just like the Freight Dogs have to.  Yawn

Is the cockpit located on a sort of half deck between the upper deck and the main deck, as it appears in most pictures I've seen? If so, it's probably that Airbus could fit multiple cockpit doors with redundant safety features...

Yea, the A380 cockpit is located between the passenger decks.

I remember hearing that the cockpit door would be bullet-proof, this was already before 2001. Other ideas would be to make it possible to isolate the two decks from each other, or have a bulletproof door to the crew rest area too.
