PHX-Shannon Ireland

Sat May 01, 2004 12:10 pm

I am planning a trip to Shannon Ireland and I have two different options and I want to know which one will probably be better.
PHX-LAX,JFK,O'Hare, Boston,etc. (Any airline)
Then to Shannon on Aer Lingus
PHX-LHR British Airways
LHR-Shannon (any airline)

Seems to me the most logical route would be PHX-LHR then LHR to Shannon. But that is just my logic.

I agree with Av8rPHX. Make sure you don't forget to sign up for BA's frequent flyer program. PHX-LHR-SNN will rack up a bunch of miles.

The bunch of miles with BA will only be if you buy a World Traveller Plus seat, or higher otherwise it's 25% miles only.

Do you have a preference regarding a FF program? If not (shameless plug) - how about PHX-EWR-SNN with CO?

I've got a couple of thoughts.

1) If you are travelling First class, take BA through LHR.

2) If you are travelling business class fly EI through LAX. It's outstanding!

3) Flying coach. I'd take BA unless you really care about the miles. Why? Because that way, on the way home, when you are really tired, you don't have to change planes towards the end. You change planes "up front" at Heathrow, then settle in for the long haul home.

Just another option, and also a plug for my hometown/hometown airline, but you could fly USAirways PHX-PHL-SNN. Flying their 767's across the pond isn't the greatest, but it sure beats CO's 757's and will get you lots of Star miles if your interested.

I'd rather be flying.
