Last NZ 767-200

Sat May 01, 2004 2:09 pm

NZ now only have 1 762 flying (ZK-NBA) having removed ZK-NBB from service and ZK-NBC parked up as a spare until middle of May. Both NBB and NBC are to be sent to Israel to be converted into freighters for an as yet unknown customer. Due to the heavy workload at ANZES, NBB will be flown to SNN in Ireland for it's EOL. NBA is planned to remain in the fleet until March 2005.

NZ1,

Do you know what a/c will takeover on the SIN-AKL-SIN route once the last
B762 is retired? I assume NZ does not operate a B744 due to significant demand? Thanks for your help.

The AKL-SIN run as well as other destinations in Asia, eg. HKG, are operated by 767-300, of which they still have plenty. The 767-200 hasn't flown long haul in a long time.

Astrojet,

I don't think I can recall a time within the last 10 years or so that NZ have operated a 762 to SIN. All services from both CHC and AKL are operated by the 763. The only asian destination operated by a 744 is AKL-NRT.

Nz1... and maybe the CHC-NRT-CHC route too, with 744? In the left photo, the photographer say was taken in a KIX-CHC flight. Then, do you Know if flights between Japan and CHC are a mix of 763/744? Are seasonal this flights with the 744's?
I want to go to CHC by the end year, and one option is MAD-AMS with IB, AMS-NRT with JAL, and NRT-CHC with NZ (JAL code-share in this leg)

I believe NZ's B762s are only used for Australia/NZ/Oceania. I don't believe there was a time where they actually flew scheduled services to Asia. The B763s are the important ones which fly to Asia and North America.

Je89_w:

Well, NZ did operate the B762s to Asia (at least AKL/CHC-SIN vv) in the late 80s and early 90s. Remember NZ's (for for that matter QF's) B762s are all ER models - well capable of flying NZ-SIN.

However, in the early 90s, the Asian flights were all upgraded to B763s and their B762s were reduced to flying only Trans-Tasman and Pacific island flights.

AirNewZealand, The last 762 is currently only flying AKL-SYD-AKL and AKL-MEL-AKL flights. It is used on the pacific when required due to 763 maintenance requirements. You are correct, the 744 does also fly NRT-CHC-AKL, but not KIX. I believe 744 use to KIX is seasonal.

WLG-Spotter, I stand corrected. I found a photo of one in SIN too. Thanks for the info.

Too bad those birds are being retired, same goes for QF. Trying to get one of their B762s in HNL on their ferry flight to the desert.

Je89_w,

I am glad that our 762's are being retired. The oldest was delivered in 1985, and is a dunger. They require so much work, and are costly to maintain.

NZ1,
You are mistaken i am sure...
NZ46 ALWAYS operates as a 762 flight...
th 763 is too large for the loadings on that flight, as it departs the cooks at 0215 in the morning, unless they have changed this??

Cheers
Mikey

I will check and get back to you AirNewZealand. As far as I know the 762 doesn't operate to RAR, however I do stand to be corrected.

I have had a check and no the 762 does not operate to RAR at all. NZ49 and NZ53 RAR-AKL are operated by the 763 and NZ47 by the 733.

Yep NZ48/49's been a 763 for many years now, having taken it a few times. And looking forward to the A320 taking over on NZ44/47 (the coral route).

There is a 762 however used on the AKL-PPT-AKL run once a week currently.

Sad to see the 762's go though.  Sad

NZ48/49 has been using a mixture of 762's 763's over the last few years, all 763 now though!

Anxebla, Air NZ fly AKL-NRT-CHC-AKL with a 744 (not daily) and only in the Southern summer the 744 foes to KIX with a AKL-KIX-CHC-AKL routing 3x weekly, 4 flights flown with 763's, however I think next southern summer this will change as the 744's will be used elsewhere.
