Boeing had an add in the NY Times on December 17, 2003. Recently, they have had mini advertisings on big LED
signs on subway stations in NYC.
Most likely to generate interest (as well as all of the other adversting/promoting that they have done). I am sure that somewhere down the line some executive has made a distinct connection, and unless it made sense, they would not be wasting their money.
Think of it this way: Have you (or the public) ever had so much interest/fascination/information etc. on a new plane?
