Boeing 7E7 Commercials.

Mon May 03, 2004 1:15 am

I just caught the tail end of one the other day. It said "Dreamliner, the 7E7" or something of the like. Has anyone else seen these commercials?? And if so, how long have they been out? This is the first one I have seen.

On Tuesday, there was a full 2-page ad in the Wichita Eagle featuring ANA and their order.

Wichita Eagle?? Now that really is global branding! We've not heard a word about it here in HK. Is it a 767 derivative?

Why would Boeing bother to put ads for an airplane in local newspapers? The general public are going to have no effect on whether or not airlines purchase the airplane, and airline CEO's aren't exactly skimming the newspaper looking for new models of airplanes that are coming out.

I'm sure they put it in the Wichita paper as a sense of local pride since they are the areas largest employer.

Consequently, the Wichita facility...which manufactures all the Section 41's for a BCAC (as well as the entire 737 fuselage) is likely to be sold in the coming year (although I wouldn't put it past Boeing to use it as a ploy to negotiate with the unions).

Boeing had an add in the NY Times on December 17, 2003. Recently, they have had mini advertisings on big LED signs on subway stations in NYC.

Why?
Most likely to generate interest (as well as all of the other adversting/promoting that they have done). I am sure that somewhere down the line some executive has made a distinct connection, and unless it made sense, they would not be wasting their money.

Think of it this way: Have you (or the public) ever had so much interest/fascination/information etc. on a new plane?

Cory6188,

No, but the general public is going to fly them. The general public needs to be made aware of this new aircraft type. We're different, we can't wait to fly that thing, but the general public is always sceptical about new aircraft types and wouldn't want to be the first to fly them.

cheers

Yes, Boeing put the ad in there for local pride. I don't think they're trying to capture the attention of Ryan International or anything. Also, the ANA order was the first good news we've heard about Boeing for a while. They've been getting pretty negative press for a while now. They do a lot of full-page ads for certain holidays like Veteran's Day and put stuff in once in a while as a "pat on the back" for employees.

I've been seeing them for about a month.... they play them all day/every day on FoxNews.

You didnt miss much at the beginning... all it says is that these planes will give off less pollution, have been being studied for years/decades, and will bring the world together like never before. Same music as the old commercials.

The customers will demand the airplane from the airline, and consequently the airline will order the airplane. There is also brand recognition they are trying to establish.

Cory6188, Back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Airlines and Aircraft Manufacturers ran extensive ads in magazines as well. McDonnell Douglas ran a 2 page ad, Touting their Super 80, This baby does not scream. Eastern ran a 4-page ad touting the new Atlanta Midfield Terminal.

I just saw this recently on CNN Headline News before I went to school. I thought this was brand new, but apparently not.
