What's The Deal With Air France Bashing?

Tue May 04, 2004 5:09 am

Ok........so here's the deal. Can anyone tell me why so many people in this forum seem to dislike Air France? I've flown it several times - long and short haul - and I think they're great! Can anyone tell me why it's so horrible to have the exterior of an aircrft dirty sometimes? Or why doesnt anyone like their livery? It might be boring, but it is stylish and sharp. And what's wrong eith their service? I think it is excellent. And again, why so many comments on the French like 'its because of the French' or 'those dirty French people'? Can't you guys show atleast a little respect?

I perceived just the opposite. I took AF on quite some long-haul and personally thought they are average, but here in the forum, I perceived, most of the people like them. I don't see any bias, personally.

Hope there is no US-France battle going on  Smile

Perhaps some people dont like air france because it has the word FRANCE on it... or it originates from france.... if you catch my drift.  Smile

I only kid.

Cheers.

Caymanair, I think quite a lot of those comments come from the "I've flown one sector on Ryanair/Southwest/Whatever, so I'm the ultimate aviation expert"-crowd...

... and some of it, especially the posts that explicitly criticise AF because it's French, comes from the "they were against us in Iraq"-crowd... the "Freedom Fries"-crowd, that is...

But some comments will also be from people who have actually flown on AF, but simply had a bad experience with them: it happens on just about every airline - you'll always have lot's of people either loving or hating an airline, and few somewhere in the middle saying "they're ok - nothing extremely good, no major screwups...".

That's just the way it is - and the same applies to LH, SA)">UA, SA)">AA, BA, SA, CX, SQ, ... as well as Airbus, Boeing, McDD, ...

Regards,
Frank

Caymanair

I felt the same as you and here are my 2 €cents

- the parallel between the "dirty" white robe and the old cliché of the smelly Frenchies is so cheap and easy that some guys around here can't help relaunching this crap at least once a week.

-after the extraordinary anti-french campaign that has followed you know what, it's again cheap and easy to attack an innocent airline just because it has "France" in it

-AF just bought KL and I could give you some names of dutchies around this forum who very innocently constantly "reveal" stories about the concorde, or Habsheim disaster, or bribe paid to KL exec by the disgusting Frenchies, or David Vincent meeting aliens as he lost his way at midnight  Acting devilish

I agree with Mrniji-that the bias is not noticeable. I think the vast majority of anet members will agree Air France is one of the top airlines in the world, (I expect some to disagree with me). I haven't noticed any Air France bashing. I think Air France stands out when it comes to the appearance of flight attendants-very sharp looking!

Air France is actually a very good airline, and that their planes are dirty does not matter at all, even SAS have dirty planes, just look at the top of the fuselage :P

The whole thing about freedom fries and shunning France because they didn't support the war (good for them) is totally ridiculous. And that is coming from an American. We are all brothers in the end. Something like this shouldn't divide the world again. We already have enough problems on our hands.

I have seen a bias among some (mainly due politics it seems) but I wouldnt say it's the dominant way of thinking on this forum.

Personally, I like AF.

Varig md-11,

I agree that some Dutch members have gone over the top on occasion, but to tell you the truth, from reading your posts, you seem very anti-Dutch. I lived in Holland for four years and have had a very different (and positive)experience from what you seem to have had. If some Dutch are guilty of attacking the French, you are equally guilty of attacking the Dutch. I mean No offence to you mate, but that is how it seems.

So some of their planes are dirty? That actually makes me feel good about the airline I'm flying on, it means the planes are always in the air, no time to clean them. Of course, safety is a priority and they are checked like any other airline, not cleaning them however does no harm to the exterior except maybe the paint job, and thats not a safety issue.

My car is dirty, the busses around town are dirty, most trains are dirty and basically never get washed, why is it that airplanes have to be spotless? I guess it's all the spotters and their selfish desires Big grin

Come on guys, this topic is ranking up there with NW's DC 9s, it's beaten to death.

Cheers,

I've flown them ONCE only, and I thought their service was rather average, so I can't comment on that, but I love their livery-it's classic, stylish and smart.

Yeah you guessed it right...... everything seems to go to the "a" vs. "b"

"people do not like it b/c. it has the word france in it ??"

Now if these are not the signs of an early war..... i'll have to say that thunderstorm is a sign of a good weather....

Anyways if the war starts plz. invite me... lol

Last I checked, AF was'nt the only airline with a white fuselage. I've seen Air Canada, IB, heck even a jetBlue aircraft that looked a little dirty, so who cares? Airplanes get dirty right? What does that have to do with the service of the airline or the interior? Nothing! AF is one the most recognized airlines in the world. Who's bashing them? The folks who live under the Bush camp? Ignore those folks. Many of us in the US are looking foward to the Texan's retirement in November!

Guys you didn't get the point!!
There are 3 classics on this Forum:

1. Unwashed AF aircraft
2. PTV in LH economy class, or rather the absence of such
3. NW's DC-9s

About twice daily someone comes up with this pretending he just got the idea and found that topic so relevant that he wants to share it with all other a.net geeks who then get the feeling "hey, I haven't had my say in at least 24 hours so let's jump on it with both feet!!"
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

I wish all Americans felt like you, regardless of whether they are pro or against war/Bush/Condi and the man with the hands. I know people who refuse to buy German and French products after you know what. As if that would help ***sigh***. The only thing that happens is that French and German workers might lose their jobs because of something they probably don't care that much about.

Having said that, when is AF going to wash those planes?  Big grin

Seriously though, I have flown AF across the pond lots of times. They're not fantastic, but they have good, consistent service in Monkey Class. Given the good fares, that's all you can really ask for. And their 777s have PTV  Big grin
