AAs MD90s From Reno Air

Tue Feb 08, 2000 3:48 am

Does anyone know where exactly the MD90s are going from AA. I heard that they might be going to Delta, but then isn't delta getting rid of their MD90s in first place?
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

Who said anything about the MD-90s leaving AA? I think AA is pretty much stuck with them for awhile!

I thought the MD-90s weren't compatible with AA's fleet. I heard the same thing that they were going to get rid of them.

Yes, AA is stuck with Reno's MD87's (AA's first!), -88's and -90's till the end of their leases, and all indications are they will get rid of them at lease end (check out their unusual paint jobs - AA markings on all-white fuselages) and incorporate existing AA planes into Reno's old routes. Could be wrong on this, but that's the latest I've heard.

You all are right. Most of the ex-Reno Air fleet will fall out of AA's fleet when their leases expire. Has anyone actually seen when they expire though? I refer especially to the MD-90s.

What routes do the MD-87s and MD-90s fly on?

Last I heard, the -87's and -90's were pretty much flying on the routes that Reno Air used them on.
The -90's were (and still are) used almost exclusively on the SNA-SJC run, but I also saw them used on LAX-SJC a few times.
The -87's flew (and fly) mainly:
LAX-RNO, LAS-RNO, RNO-ORD, SJC-SAN, SJC-LAX

If anyone else can update this, please do.

The MD-90s will most likely leave the fleet first, AA has stated that they are having a hard time finding parts for them and recently bought a used MD-90 from some place in asia just for spare parts. Some of the MD-80s leases dont expire for another 3 yrs so they will be around a little while. Im unsure about the MD-87s, they will go after the MD-90s most likely. Most of these former QQ routes will be replaced be new 737-823s. AA is getting about 2 737s a month now.

Yes, the parts for the MD-90 are hard to come by. DL is also having a hard time with the parts situation. As far as the spare parts from the destroyed Asiana MD-90, I think that the aircraft and all its parts are still held by the insurance company that insured the aircraft. Contrary to what you believe, the MD-90 will most likely not be the first Ex-Reno Air aircraft to leave AA's fleet.

From what AA managment told us is that the MD-90s will go first, they seem to be a real headache from AAs standpoint. this used MD-90 came from somewhere in Malaysia, I dont have any other info about it at this time though.

Hmmm, I see.... I've been at CPV for about 5 years and enjoy every minute of it. Of course, I really miss working on the ramp/gate since that is where I started (at one of those ill fated hubs).
