Snowflake's MD82

Tue May 04, 2004 6:59 am

Today I saw the -ROS MD82 at Venice Marco Polo Airport with the color scheme of Snowflake. If someone can kindly respond me these questions it will clear me some doubts.

Since when do they operate in Snowflake?
Why did SAS choose to break the "one type" rule of the LCC?
Was it due to high demand? How are they doing right now?
What effects does this will have on costs and operations?

Thanks a lot.
Regards from Italy.  Laugh out loud

This same MD-80 has been into LHR too.

Now either SAS don't have enough 738's left for Snowflake(they have sold a few lately) or they plan to remove the 738 from Snowflake service and replace them with MD-80 machines, or they plan to operate the 2 types, anyone know?

As a side note,LN-RCX a 738 in Snowflake c/s is a regular visitor into LHR on SAS ops.

I've heard that the 738 will go back to mainline SAS and the MD-80 is Snowflakes aircraft of choice, but I a m not sure if its true...

In the ongoing re-organization of SAS,the Norwegian base will only operate the 737NG versions along with the BU fleet. Most of the 737's are being moved from CPH and ARN with MD's going the other way. This means that Snowflake, which does not operate out of Norway, will convert to the MD-82.So far LN-ROS and ROY have been repainted.Possibly, more are to follow. The planes are used by SAS when not operating for Snowflake just as ordinary SAS a/c operate for Snowflake when need arises.
