The Nadi flight has been operating since 2000 or 2001 I think, actually Korean used to operate it in the early 90s as well but then stopped. You can still find faded old Korean Airlines promotional posters in many of the travel agencies in Fiji from this time. The flights all continue on to Auckland, although the A330 must be new as I've only ever seen 777s or 744s. Hope this helps!

How is the Nandi flight doing? I think AI served them sometimes in the 60s or 70s (or 80s)...

could imagine that some people go back to India with KE, keeping in mind that almost 60 % of Fiji's population is ethnically Indian, albeit bonds to India might have vanished in the long process of time

do they go nonstop to Nandi?? If no, do they have 5th pax rights for the last sector (from SIN, KUL, SYD...???)

Amadeus shows Auckland as a nonstop 777,

Mrniji, Nadi is a turnaround service now with the A332 nonstop.

Any other Asian airlines in Nadi or Suva?

With regards to Vladivostok, I believe Korean Air is the only Asian carrier flying there. However, Vladivostok Air offers a decent network to Asia, with flights from Vladisvostok to Busan and Seoul, Korea, Dalian and Harbin, China and Niigata, Osaka, and Toyama, Japan.

Actually, even though a good deal of Fiji's citizens are Indian (it's currently around 45%) there's hardly any traffic between India and Fiji. Fiji is still quite a poor country, and when the local Indians do travel it is mostly to Australia & NZ to visit relatives. The Fiji Indians have pretty much lost the connection to India, with few having any friends or family there that they know about, though they have retained most of the culture and traditions (except the caste system) and all the Indians I know would love to visit India (including my financee, tips welcome on where to go Big grin!).

As to KE to India, I think most people would take Air Pacific to Sydney connecting to AI instead as it's quicker. From what I've seen at the airport, KE passengers seem to mostly be Korean, Chinese or backpackers, with the odd local on ther way to Auckland. And given that the crew layovers to/from AKL/ICN are a few days as there are only 3 flights or so a week, and Korean seem to have a large inflight crew, the Mocambo has a block of 10-15 rooms or so permanently reserved for KE, and on the few occasions I've made it to the hotel for drinks the crew were quite good fun.

Thanks for the info FQtv, really interesting! I did some research on the Fiji Indians, and it is nice to have some evaluation on this matter by some local who knows!

By the way, AI does not serve australia at the moment (they might start in one or two years, in case the widebodies arrive some time...), so they can't transfer there. Hence KE would be a nice alternative, or the new QF flight to India.

Mrnjii - Do you know why Air India left Australia? I remember they used to fly to Australia every Fridayand Tuesday their flights were full.. Many Europeans used to fly Air India cause of its competitive airfares.

Do you know exactly when they will return to Australia and what equip they will use?

Operations to SYD were withdrawn in 1991 (A310 via SIN), because they were uneconomic.

However, in 1995, Services were reitroduced (again via SIN) to Perth on the Westcoast (has a large Indian community). I don't know when these flights were withdrawn, but must have been 2 years later or so.

To say anything definite about AI reentering Australia would be speculative at the moment. I personally expect them to return once the 340 have arrived - purchased or leased - in the fleet. Aparently, services to SFO and YYZ are priority, SYD, maybe via PER (one equipment) could be next on the list (maybe nonstop). I wouldn't expect it to happen earlier than 2 years

In this case, I could imagine that AI will try to use its connections to Australia as a generator for 6th generation pax, which travel from Europe via India (Transit) to Australia. I wouldn't wonder if special fares and good connection times in DEL, BOM or even BLR are offered - this is the way they can remain competitive towards QF, SQ, TG, MH etc

SQ452 Asiana Airlines serve Khabarovsk with a 737-400 and Sakhalin with an A321, in Russia's East coast from Seoul(ICN).

Fqtv Korean Air now operate Seoul-Nadi-Seoul service with an A330-200. The 744/777 service going onto Auckland has ended.

Is this flight nonstop??? If yes, demand/supply ratio??  Confused

Nonstop according to both amdeus.net and KE website, 10 hours flight time add 40 minutes on the return leg.

Korean have been serving NAN for quite a few years now! Flights were suspended in 1998 but returned in 2000 at that time they continued to AKL using 772's 773's or 744's, depending on the season. Flights have been ICN-NAN-ICN since early 2003 I think it was, and used 772's in the last Southern summer.

AKL is currently daily 772's but should be back to 744's later this year for the next Southern summer 2004/05, they actually flew double daily 744's ICN-AKL-ICN in 2002/03 southern summer. They made a return to CHC last summer which was a seasonal service with 744's 3x weekly.

Asiana fly to tashkent in Uzbekistan with a 767-300, while Korean Air Cargo used to operate a 742 or 744F there, I think the service was actually just a tech stop on their European routes.
