Security Check When Leaving Terminal C At CPH

Fri May 07, 2004 5:10 pm

Last week I returned to the Kingdom of Sweden, after a monthlong visit to the bluegrass state of US, Kentucky... Had a great time I might add... as usual.

I flew from Lexington to Gothenburg via Chicago and Copenhagen.
When entering the airport in Lexington I was checked, when entering terminal 5 I was checked, but in Copenhagen we arrived at gate C33 (or something like that, it was in the C complex) and the flight to GOT was depaturing from gate A4... now here the strange thing.

When I LEFT terminal C I was checked!!??!?!? Have I missed something here, or what do they think I brought with me, that I didn't already have when entering the plane in Chicago???? Why am I checked when leaving the terminal, can somebody please tell me? Is there an entrance that I was not aware of? And if so, why can I gain access to the gates at terminal C without being checked??

I know that they sometimes do spot security checks when leaving the "non-schengen" area either in "C" or end of "A" - I really don't see any point why they do this???

Working at the CPH I have to say that they do seem to take security very seriously... it's the only airport I've worked/visited on (mainly have experience in Nordic countries but also some European airports) where security is actually stopping you at the airside/apron to check your ID and making a body search!

Sometimes I think that they are using their resources in completely wrong way... like TWISTEDWHISPERs example!!!

It's about as pointless as when making a delivery to the GLA terminal at Landvetter Airport (GOT), they search you with the metal detector, but they have no supervision of what I am unloading from my truck... So, I could in fact walk in to the terminal where they take my swiss armyknife in custody, and then I walk to my truck and unload four pallets of firearms.... talk about misguided security focus...

All passangers coming from non-chengen area have to pass security check. Has happened to me every time passing CPH. Most likely the reason is that there are also flights serving some less stable countries, like Pakistan, for example, and they just want to be safe. As all non-schengen flights arrive to the same pier (C), everyone (even if they are coming from Japan, USA or Estonia  Big grin) have to pass this additional check.

But another funny thing is that they have also some type of mobile security checkpoint at one gate at pier B. Does anybody know, why this is there? (close to the end of the pier, a gate on the right)

I go thru that security check 2 times a month when I'm going home from Switzerland. And I honestly can't see either why the heck the have extra x-ray machines and body search in terminal c.
They should use that resources in the other security checks where there are big lines.

I mean, what can people actually get in the aircraft that is so dangerous so they have to get checked once again? And in terminal C they even don't have restaurants where you can get forkes or knives..

This is a very stupid thing by CPH. And I have knowledge of many people that has lost their connections because they had to stand in a long line just to get checked again.

Funny that this security check in CPH is not done to me EVERY time I arrive from non-schengen country!!??

This is so that they can do extra (spot) security check at the gate just before boarding the flight - this is "normal" security measure at many airports!

It is their duty, because the airport is the boarder of the Chengen-area. I don't see anything strange about it. BTW I was not chécked in AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA arriving from BKK, I was very surprised, they should have done it.

Typical waste of time and taxpayers money. You just left the plane and you go thru security check. Interesting that they don't do it at other Schengen borders.
