The First Time You Saw A 777 Was?

Sat May 08, 2004 6:36 am

Im sure this was brought up before but oh well. Just thought i would ask. Mine was back in 97 at BOS. That was the first time i saw an AA A300 as well. I was waiting non-rev for a flight to DFW on AA when i looked out the window and saw a BA 777 climbing out. To say the least i was very excited and will never forget that day.

Sometime in 1996 or so, shortly after induction, I was hoping to fly one of these wonderful ones... booked DEN-LAX UA with 757... and all of a sudden, flight cancelled, booked on the next flight 1 hr later, due to more pax equipment change... 777!!  Smile That was great

Hey Bob,

I saw my very first 772 in the Spring of 2000 when I flew from DEN-IAD on United's 777-222 (N766UA). Also the first time I flew in business class, making it one of the most memorable flights of my life. I have yet to see a 773....might not have to wait too long! Big grin

Okay, I'll bite.

It was January 1996 at DIA, a United flight on its way to IAD and then on to Frankfurt.

Surprisingly enough until may 2002 ( I was 14 then ) I knew nothing about airplanes..... I had been on planes few times before, and always thought all of them were jumbo ( which meant it was a Boeing ), and my idea of an airbus plane was that all of airbuses were single aile arcrfts....... pretty funny

But on may 3rd. 2002... my 1st. intnl. trip to Singapore on SQ was the day that changed my life.... That was the 1st. time that I saw and flew on the 777. Also while comming back we were booked on KE upto SEL on an a330....

So that was pretty amazing indeed....

have fun  Smile

For me it was sometime in early 1994 -- May or June, maybe? Spotted the first 777 to go into service at ORD getting ready for ORD-CDG (IIRC).

Saw the first 777 that I can remember in Osaka/Kansai. It was a Cathay Pacific 777-200 dimly lit by the terminal lights as our delayed flight from Seattle/Tacoma pulled in that night.

My first time I saw with B777 with DL was here at FLL from 4 years ago and when I was working at the restaurant with CA 1 Services. My supervisor was said ok that I can go look to see with B777. Not have any problems at all. I saw with B777 about 3 or 4 times at FLL and sometime was used with B777 here at FLL.

Hello

I was living in Bogota Colombia in 1996 when I saw the 1st 772. It was a prototype that was making a tour in Southamerica with final destination Santiago de Chile Air Show.

Well the company where I was working for, had received an invitation from the representative office of Boeing in Colombia to take part in the demonstration flight. My Boss couldn't assist so I went to represent him. I was complete happy and very excited. But bad luck, after the plane came back from the first flight and the passenger were getting out of the plane through the gate finger of the "Puente Aereo", the gate fell down taking with him the front door of the plane. Surprisingly any passenger were injured, at that moment nobody was walking out of the plane. The President of Avianca was in the plane and he was really upset, it happened in an Avianca terminal.

Well the 2nd flight, my flight, was obviously cancelled, I just received some souvenirs from Boeing. The Plane stay in Bogota for some weeks until a new door came form the factory and another plane has flew to Santiago for the Air Show.

Sorry for my English and that was all friends.

Bye

Back in the spring of 1997 at ORD. It was at the the gate next to my arriving flight from LAX. The 777 was flying the non-stop to HNL that day. Odd, as it was normally operated by a DC-10.

It was 1998 I was flying from ORD to LAS and I was at O'hare airport I saw this aircraft in the dark it was evening over the Christmas-New Years holiday. I was in the United terminals and I saw this huge twin engine United aircraft that I could not identify(again it was dark) as it taxied around the C concourse I thought to myself that's awfully damn big for a 767 and it was so wide (a true widebody). After it turned the corner and taxied for the runway it dawned on me. Here I had been hearing about them for 2 to 3 years and it never occurred to me (daaahhhh)) a triple 7 I screamed to myself. I was so jazzed I could hardly believe it and then I saw them again more often at other airports. Next to the 744 they are my favorite Boeing.

Believe it or not it was one afternoon i believe April 1997 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territorys, Canada... when i woulda been in about maybe grade 2 or 3 (just a guess on that one) my dad picked me up from school about 30 minutes early saying i should see what they parked out at the airport. When we got there, turned out it was a United Airlines B777 of all things. Quite a surprise to me.

I was spotting a/c near In and Out by LAX. I think it was the Summer of 96. All of the sudden a huge twin engine flew in and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a UA 777. On of the most awesome moments for me at LAX. I could feel the power as it flew over for 24R and made a smooth touch down.

I was a little late seeing one...but it was Jan 2001 and American was operating a military charter into AEX with N789AN. I was stunned by how large and beautiful it was!! Since then, I've had the chance to work with UA and CO 777s many times!

Staring out the window of the Air South 737-200 while our aircraft was waiting to depart Newark when I noticed a plane with two large engines
and a very tall Tail. It was a British Airways inbound from London and what
a sight it was. This was in March 1996

The first time I saw a 777 was during Boeing's official rollout ceremony in Everett. Quite the show, let me tell you! Still have a few of the lunch sacks they gave away with food inside.

Second time was a tour arranged for a few people--actually got to go inside the plane while it was at BFI and check out the test equipment, water barrels, and very out of date seats!

May 15th, 1995 at PDX, Gate E5

United took delivery of it's first 777, I believe N777UA. Anyway, my dad (now retired) took me up to PDX and out on the ramp, so that we we could walk all around and underneath it. VERY impressive airplane! I wasn't able to go up into the cabin for flight deck for some reason.

Ironically, in the 8 years since then, I've yet to fly on the 777....though that will change on my birthday, when I fly UA916 IAD-AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA. It would be great if it were this very plane...

I don't think so, Sllevin - The first flight of a 777 took place in June of 1994 and it got its FAA certification in April 1995.

I first saw one at PAE in July 1995. There were some BA planes awaiting engines. I also saw one of CX's being test flown at Boeing field.

I guess the first time was at BHM on September 12th, 2001. It was United's ship making BHM look like a toy airport parked on the taxiway on the north side of the airport.

The first time I saw one was through the glass at ATL, but the first one I saw up close was in TYS . A DL 777 was on a training run and did a full stop in TYS. I was amazed at the size and the sleekness of the 777. Great looking bird!!!

I've never seen a 777 - not that I know of anyway. I've been on the Boeing plant tour, and there were no 777s there that day. The times I've been through LAX, its been at night and I didn't notice any triple bogies and squared off flat tails. And I always seem to miss the Korean 777 that comes to YVR - if its still coming here.
This is your captain speaking. I’ve turned off the no-smokin’ sign. Hell, if the plane is smokin' why can't you?

I saw my first 777 at LAX, i just arrived on a COA 737-700 from Cleveland into Los Angeles, was about 2:30pm LAX time, and we were taxiing to Terminal 6, which is right next to the UAL Terminal, Parked at the UAL terminal was a 777-200 UAL being loaded, that was the first time i saw one.

Flying a plane is no diff. from riding a bicycle. Its just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. -'Airplane'

June 12th 1994.

Back when I lived in Seattle, my father took me up to Paine field and we watched the first flight of the 777-200 take off. It was a brilliant moment with a few hundred people watching the massive bird launch into the air on a typical overcast Seattle day.

I think I saw a UAL 777 in MIA about five years back. Since I'm not sure, the first time other than that was when I was in CDG and saw some AF 772s, then flew a Delta one to ATL.

The first 777 I saw was N774UA at PHX on October 6, 1994.

There are some rather interesting answers above though as the first revenue flight for the 777 was UA 921 from IAD to LHR on June 7,1995.

The first time I encountered a T7 was at SEA in August of 2001. It was an AA bird, and although I knew something about airliners, I was still classifying them by the number of engines they had. My uncle pointed over to the a/c waiting for pushback clearance and mentioned it was a Triple Seven. I kinda looked at him as to say, "How can you tell? There are a million planes with two engines!" Big grin The first thing that struck me as being amazing was the size of its engines. Also on that day, I saw my first 747, a -200 of NW bound for Tokyo. A moment I will never forget.

The first time I saw one was after I boarded one! I flew from Denver to Seattle on UA about 3 years ago. Walked in. Sat down. Looked around. "What the hell is this?" I pulled the safety card and surprise. "Oh! This is what they look like!" Blew the ice off the runway on takeoff.

July 3, 1995, Boeing Field, a 777 for BA awaiting engines. Found out was about production series # 4 or 5. I had just started a trip in Washington & Oregon, went by the field on the east side of Boeing Field. As 50 years from the end of WWII, there were many a/c of that era on the field and near the Boeing Museum for a big celebration the day before (Sunday, 7/2/95). [Several months later, found out that this was one of the BA's that was to get the GE engines and GE was having problems getting them work due to their large size]. Also nearby was the first 767 (converted to an "AWACS" a/c for the USAF). The next day, went by Boeing Field and saw (at a distance) the first 707, 757, 747-100, and other Boeing 1st a/c's in the hangers or just outside of them. When at the Boeing Museum, saw outside of the Museum (from the airshow that weekend) a B-29, B-17, B19, Zero and a Mitsubishi Dive Bomber (all WW II a/c). By the way, my flight out from EWR-ORD-SEA to Seattle was on 2 different DC-10's by United (FF reward redemption flight)
Probably saw the first operational ones in 1996 at JFK and/or LHR. First flight on a 777 was on BA EWR-LHR-EWR April 2002.

I was spotting at London Heathrow, (I think it must have been early part of 1995 according to the info on the previous posts). Anyway I had no idea that a United Boeing 777 would be making its first visit, my eyes almost popped out when it landed! The aircraft did a tour of the airport then parked over near Terminal 4. This was just before the first BA triple 7 arrived and I read later that BA were disappointed their aircraft wasn't the first 777 at LHR.

My friend's father is the manager of British airways office in Tehran, Iran. It was 6 years ago that one day he told me BA uses 777 for Tehran-London flight and it leaves Tehran every Friday morning at 9. So one Friday we went on last floor of Tehran Mehrabad airport's parking where we could see the runway. There it was, a very nice 777 with calm engines (comparing with Iran Air 747SP's!) took off in front of our eyes.

On the tour of the Everett Boeing plant. Or more precisely, on the ramp outside.

June of 2000 SFO-ORD

My father was the pilot and at the time I had no friggen idea what an airplane was. He stated that it was UA's newest a/c that they used and that they were either at the time or were going to be the largest operator of the a/c. I remember sitting in business (I was 10 at the time so this was a big deal for me) and the f/a giving me this MASSIVE thing of cookies and letting me up to the cockpit door. I will never forget that day b/c I too remember thinking to myself about how cool my fathers job was and how much I wanted to do it. To this day I still pursue flight.
