JetBlue's Caribbean Flights

Sun May 09, 2004 6:26 am

I know I am biased being from FLL and want to see more fligts here but I was just thinking. jetBlue rumors were going around back in the day bout using FLL as a carribean connection destination. Wouldn't of been more logical to offer flights From FLL to Aguadilla, San Juan, Santiago and Santo Domingo instead of JFK. I think people would much rather fly from West Coast Destinations to the carribean through FLL instead of having to add a few more hours to your trip by having to fly up to JFK first...Anyone elsre have some thoughts? FLL would be the ideal connecting hub for caribbean service if you don't count MIA.

JFK to the Caribbean is important because of the huge number of Puerto Ricans and Dominicans in New York. In the future, as they add more service between FLL and western cities, maybe they will add connecting service to their Caribbean destinations.

as long as they stay far away from Cayman, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Trinidad, i really think it isnt a bad idea.

I think this is best idea for FLL will make connecting with caribbean or west coast flight. I don't think will not make connecting into FLL and please don't go to MIA. Because it is very stricted place for MIA.

Friend, yes you make sense, but JetBlue is a miracle happening. Their top brass have made great choices and having flown Jetblue twice, well all I can say is damn I love this airline. Buy some stock pal and you won't be sorry.

The JetBlue service from JFK to the carib destinations is being marketed mainly to O&D customers......and mainly to the large Dominican and Puerto Rican communities who return home several times a year who are looking for low fares. AA has dominated the routes for years and have charged very high fares - so JetBlues reasonable prices are very welcomed. The flights are also oddly timed, with middle of the night departures in some cases....JetBlue wanted to enter the market quickly. Also, dont forget that JFK is their main station.

I agree that FLL flights would also have worked, and have been better suited for connections, but JetBlue is much more focused on point to point travel. Also, Spirit is planning to open up routes from FLL to the carib/latin america.

JetBlue is a great product, people who fly with them become loyal customers. But, lets see what the future brings, their planned expansion with more A320s and the E190s is huge - many airlines have gotten into trouble in the past by expanding too quickly, I hope that JetBlue can stay successful. Also, JetBlue has a great financing deal on their Airbus aircraft and has not yet started making significant payments on the airliners, those payments will start being made just as the A320s begin requiring heavy maintenance, and these two costs may change JetBlues financial outlook. The next few years, after the honeymoon is over, will indicate whether JetBlue will become a major player among US airlines and will determine whether they are in the game for the long-haul. I hope that they succeed.

As others have said, there is a huge market for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic from the NYC area. The flights to the Dominican Republic are notorious for having huge amounts of extra baggage and cargo; AA flies A300s to both SDQ from JFK for this reason. CO even uses one of their valuable widebodies (either a 764 or 777) from EWR to SDQ due to the absolutely huge cargo demand.

A CO ticket agent once told me that their EWR-SDQ-EWR flights have more extra baggage revenue than any other flight in the system.

Spirit has won the right to fly to more Caribbean from the DOT. Will NK start those flight is yet to be seen. Spirt will add a 3 flight to SJU & a 2nd to CUN on June 15, the same day we start DTW DCA. Spirt has 35 airbus on the way to stay in the new a/c race. B6 nor Nk would benefit from going head to head. Spirt in in terminal 4 which has customs and 8 gates in FLL. B6 is in terminal 1 has 2 gates.

I think it is very likely that jetBlue will add Caribbean destinations from FLL. We must not forget the amount of aircraft they have on order. After their fleet begins to expand I am sure this will be happening.

Will B6 move back to terminal 4 where customs is located in FLL? They can depart from 1 and arrive in 4 but that will be difficult on pax and workers?

No, I don't think not able move back into the terminal 4 either and sometimes will use with customs for deplane with the international flight and will towed back into the terminal 1.
