BA And VS To Seoul/Incheon?

Sun May 09, 2004 9:54 pm

Hi,

It might be a silly question but does anybody know why BA and VS does not fly to Seoul/Incheon ?

In my opinion South Korea is a growing market since years and the economy will probably increase in the near future so this should be also an opportunity to these 2 airlines to add Seoul/Incheon to their destinantions.

Your comments are very welcome !

BA used to fly to Seoul Kimpo, but closed down the station during the Asian financial crisis. BA has closed down lots of destinations in the Asia over the past decade, including Osaka, Nagoya, Seoul, Manila, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Brisbane, Perth and Colombo.

The demand is big enough to allow 2 Korean carriers serving LHR with B744. They will be happy without British competition.

I'm pretty sure BA last flew to Seoul during the SARS crisis - IIRC they diverted their usual LHR-PEK flights LHR-ICN-PEK instead for a good few months. I think I was on one of the last direct flights to Beijing just before this started.

Add Auckland to that list HB-IWC! BA pulled out in March 1995!

Hopefully they might return to some of these destinations oneday!

I read an article in the South China Morning Post a few months ago where the local GM in Hong Kong mentioned that BA were looking at returning to Taipei and Manila as extensions of the HK service.
