It all depends on what you mean by largest. Number of passengers? Number of flights? Revenue? Profitability?

O&D implies pax demand count.

The most recent numbers I have in front of me are from the FirstEquity Aviation Almanac 2002....

...but LAX was the USA's (and I believe the world's) largest O&D airport (i.e., not market) followed by ATL and ORD.

Among the somewhat surprisingly low end of the scale was JFK & MIA, both with lower O&D than many secondary and tertiary operations, such as MCI. This of course due in part to their status as international gateways of the highest calibre, and the abundance of alternate airports in their general metro area.

I can't imagine that ATL is the largest O&D market. There is no way that it is bigger than NYC.

Concorde-As for airports, the top 10 in the US are LAX, LAS, ORD, ATL, MCO, PHX, LGA, DFW, SEA, and EWR, in order...

Good stuff! LAS has certainly been hustling.

Do you have the int'l stats as well... or will I have to wait for the 2003 Alamanac?  Sad

Sorry to keep you upset, but you'll have to wait for the 2003 Almanac...

You didn't read what he said. They are tops as an AIRPORT for O&D. They are the only real commercial airport in ATL wheras New York has 3 or 4 commercial ones (5 if you count HPN) to divide up the city's O&D traffic among.

I would be curious to see what percentage of passengers are O&D at airports - while certainly not the busiest, I would imagine traffic at SAN has to be close to 100% O&D.

Anyone have that kind of information?

If it is a non-hub airport, the numbers are usually up around 100%. There may be the occasional WN pax connecting at SAN, however.

Very interesting list of the next 40 airports. I see that MDW has bigger O & D than MIA and IAH. Yu would think MIA would be somewhere in the top 10.

MIA would be somewhere in the top 10.

FLL is the area's main O&D airport.

Last table I saw showed OAK and FLL tops in the US in O&D percentage (except for small airports where 100% is O&D). They were both around 95%.
