Firstly, govenmental approval would be required, the US and Brazil are not open skies countries and there is a very strict bi-lateral agreement.....I remember that AA
had to go through all kinds of hurdles to upgrade flights to Brazil from 763 to 777 aircraft as not only the flights, but the number of seats in a market, are controlled. Thus, HP
could not just start up a service to Brazil.
Phoenix to Rio, I dont see it happening......Rio is primarily a leisure destination, any real money to be made on flights to Brazil in on service to Sao Paolo. Its also a very long haul route, certainly out of range for the 757 and I do not see America West acquiring long-range aircraft for this route.....if HP
wanted to get into the long-haul business again (dont forget the Hawaii/Japan-747 incident that nearly but this airline out of business) I would think that a route from Phoenix to a European capital would make more sense (then again, LH
could not make PHX
) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA work). Also, as pointed out, if HP
did something odd like fly a 757 from PHX
to Rio via SJO
or another city, it would tie up atleast 2 to 3 757s to operate the one route, again not likely.
By the way, is the PHX
route launched by HP
