Virgin Blue (DJ) Seating

Mon May 10, 2004 2:45 pm

Hi all,

I was just wondering how the seat allocation for DJ flights are done? Are you allocated a specific seat (like 7A) or is it first-on-first-choice basis?

As an unfortunate Frequent Flyer of DJ, the seats are allocated at check in. You can pre-select your seat at check in, however it is purely on first checked in first choice. Otherwise the system will automatically allocate you a seat.

I used to fly QF domestically but our company has switched airlines, now gone are my Frequent Flyer Points, Qantas Club, Preferred Seating arrangements and extra luggage allowance.

I dont hate DJ, I just dislike them for the fact that my company has ditched my favourite QF.

You could always pay $50 bucks and sit in the "BLUE ZONE" and have extra legroom.

Jetblast737, what is the blue zone? I have never heard of it. It just goes to show the little interest I put into DJ when flying them!

A question for you Aussies!

What is the seat pitch on Virgin Blue? Also, seat pitch on QF A330/737? This is in Y-class.

I wonder because I may visit AUS within a year or so and thought I would make trip to SYD while I am there. The prices between Virgin Blue and Qantas seem to be pretty the same (PER-SYD-PER).

Regards

EDIT: Sorry to barge in, in another ones thread..

Alitalia in answer to your question "blue zone" refers to exit row seats. pay $50 dollars more and you get exit row, don't pay $50 and get claustrophobia!
Work out what you don't do well and don't do it!

Cheers.

BlueZone is $30 per sector and is a waste of money, front row has BZ as well...especially when I'm going SYD-MEL.

Might be worth it on the PER sector but in all seriousness I'd take QF from SYD-PER.

FLY QF for anything domestically in Australia. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY TO PAY $30.00 FOR EXCLUSIVE SEATS. DJ CAN GET LOST! ID RATHER PUT THAT EXTRA MONEY ON QF AND GET POINTS/SERVICE AND A MEAL OUT OF IT.

Having done it, I can tell you that Blue Zone CAN be good - but only up to a point - or bad, depending on where you sit. I paid for and was given Seat 1C on a red-eye from DRW to SYD late last year. Plenty of legroom, but the seats are just as narrow, and the recline is just as non-existant. Then, being just at the fwd crew station, I had to put up with the crew's moronic chatter for the whole night. I don't think thoses ditzes ever paused for a breath!

The only Blue Zone seats that would be somewhat worth it would be the overwing exit row aisle seats.

MerC ... Y seat pitch on both DJ & QF varies between 32in & 31 in. On some a/c if you get one of the convertable Biz/Econ. seats, the pitch can be up to 33 or 34 ins.
