The new Alitalia CEO has just announced that they plan to reintroduce the 5 Combi MD
-11s currently stored at Rome-FCO
into pax service from the next winter season.
This will be a temporary move in order to increase the offer in the long haul network while having the new business plan (which has still to be announced) implemented.
Somebody said that they will reintroduce the MD
-11s to give back to the lessors some 767s and 777s since the Company is struggling with heavy losses.
Though this might be true, I think that reintroducing some airplanes that are still new and paid for is a smart move.
Being Combi variants they would be useful in destinations with a high freight market like China (Shangai and HK
