Ethiopian To Fly From SEA (once)

Fri May 14, 2004 11:36 am

Can't say I would have ever seen an airline do this before, but Ethiopian will fly one scheduled service from Seattle on June 4 to celebrate taking delivery of a new 767-300.

They have been approved to carry passengers from SEA to IAD, then on to FCO and ADD. This is a one time only flight!

I imagine the plane will fly empty from BFI to SEA. It will depart SEA at 10am as flight 552, and arrive at IAD at 6:00p.

So, I guess SEA spotters can go check out something rare for once (literally)...

Qantas used to do this on occasion as well. They would offer a charter from SEA to SYD via SFO or LAX when they were taking delivery of a new plane. Fares were really low and even included return airfare through one of their normal west coast gateways.

Lear,

The chief test pilot for the 767 fleet, Buzz Nelson I believe, just retired, and his last certification flight was on this Ethiopian plane a week or so ago, had it on the local news here in Seattle. Not sure if the plane is at BFI or PAE right now.

Would this plane be a replacement for the one lost in that hijacking near the Comoros islands a few years ago, or is it truly new to the fleet?

It's at PAE (Everett). They rarely bring the 767/777/747 to BFI. They are normally delivered from PAE. It's the 757 and 737 that are delivered from BFI.

Any idea who'll be ground handling them? UA, DL, or AA? I told a few of my friends about the flight today, I'd be curious to see if or how much the seats from SEA-IAD are being sold for.

They will probably be handled by Swissport or ASIG .. they get most of the irregulars.

No rights for local traffic on SEA-IAD, or even SEA-FCO for that matter. All SEA-origin traffic must be in continuous transit to ADD.

I saw this a/c on the flight line at PAE last week. It looked very nice in the Ethiopian colours. Incidentaly, the factory had only three a/c on the assembly line. A 767 for ANA, a 747-400F for China Air and a 777.

Good to see that the 763s for ET are rolling... DKNY, if they come out right, I have some pics I took at ADD today upon my return from Gondar and Bahr Dar. Was nice to see ET's two 73Gs on the ground, as well as a 757 departing (the last one with the ol' colours). One L-100 was stationary since my departure on Monday. Have taken a few pics of the various Fokker 50's at ADD, BJR and GDQ. Scheduled to return to North America on Wednesady.

As for the SEA-ADD flight, here's the availability:
[1] SEA ADD 04/1000 05/1800 ET552 CA DA SR BR HR KR LR MR [763]

Economy class is restricted  Sad

Please also note that this flight will just have one stop from IAD to ADD, in FCO, rather than the usual stop in EWR.

I think the reason for the "R" in availability is the the flight is probably sold out or close to it  Smile

They are offering a cheap price for this flight. From Both SEA and IAD.
