Do You Use The PTV's On The A/C?

Fri May 14, 2004 12:44 pm

On my flight from PHX-LHR, I seemed to noticed that the children, like me, were obsessed with having their own TV. On the other hand, the adults used them, but most just read and did whatever the whole flight. When you fly on a flight, do you use the PTV'S?

I usually check the Entertainment section of the in-flight magazine when there are PTV's, but I very rarley find anything playing that I could give a damn about watching. The only thing, I usually do enjoy with PTV's are the moving map displays that show your flight into and trip progress.

Aside from Airmap, I find I'm lucky if there's one movie I want to see on a long trip. So no, don't use it much.

I usually will mess around with it a little when I get onboard, but I'm usually bored out of my skull with it well before we're even taking off.

I use them all the time, but I wish Lufthansa would change the programming more often.

Avt007, why??? I always enjoy LHs PTV-entertainment. It is not too complicated to use, never a bad picture or reflections or so, never get disturbed by moved seats in front of me. Actually, LHs PTV-system always gives me the feeling, I should be happy to be alive, nothing else counts...

I use the PTV to check the airmap from time to time, but that's it.

Nudelhirsch- The system itself is not bad, althought the new business class IFE could be better. My point was that I first flew the new A340-600 AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA-YVR shortly after it started, maybe 3 months ago, and have flown it twice since, and all the movies and other shows are exactly the same ones! Given that it is a 10 hour flight, it doesn`t take many trips before you`ve watched all the films that you`d want. I`m hoping for a new selection next time. BTW, on the last flight, economy class had better movies that biz class! Newer ones, anyway.........

The PTV's were a godsend on my SQ flights earlier in the year. Now KrisWorld has a lot of good movies, and I've never used a PTV on any other carrier so I can't compare them. But yes I really enjoyed using the PTV's

Ah, a new way of starting a LH-PTV thread again Big grin Big grin Big grin

Very subtle, I have to admit...  Big grin

btw: Last week I had French chocolate, and afterwards I had to wash myself...how's that for a starter of the other favorite topic...?

PTV - still a thrill for me...

Live nose & belly cam on EK's planes are also cool to watch.

I've used PTV on SQ, BA, CX and EK and have to admit SQ's Krisworld is the best.

As a child (that is going on 35 supposedly) I barely use the PTV for what they are there for. I keep it on the map and am normally plugged in listening to ch. 9 or sitting in front of my laptop doing school work/DVD. I tend to listen to my "Just Plane Board" mix on my iPod which has close to 1400 songs so that too makes time pass.

When on ultra-long haul flights I do like to have the PTV in that it doesn't kill my eyes like a big screen or old monitor would for 14hrs. And with a small laptop I only get about 3hrs X 2 so I guess on some of my flights the PTV is useful.

I mainly use the PTV so see the Airshow - at least know where I am and take how long to land my destination.

Always use and enjoy PTVs. Try to watch at least a movie and of course airshow. On Emirates you actually can watch take off and landing.

Not really yet. They are pretty much an interferrance from what I want to do. But I've not taken a long haul over 6 hours in awhile. but even then I prep myself ahead of time to get something really important done - sleep.

And I agree. They seem to be generational is use with the MTV crowd being the main users but I am grateful for anything that takes the little urchin in the next seats attention away from me.

Absolutely I do - especially on long flights. Being an anglophone living in France, it is pretty difficult to see the latest movies in their original (undubbed) version, so I take advantage whenever I fly, and watch movies I've been waiting to see. That's why I love airlines with multi-channel video.
