Why Airbus Don't Make Something Like B747?

Wed Feb 09, 2000 8:05 pm

Why? All airlines, which uses all-Airbus strategy leaves B747 in their fleet. If Airbus build plane with passenger capacity like 747's these airlines will change 747 into new Airbus model (A350?). Airbus can compete with 717,737,757,767 and 777, but no with 747.

You're wrong to write that Airbus can't compete with the
B747...the A340 does so while the A330 competes with
both B777 and B767 !! it's not only a matter of seats capacity
but also about profits/maintenance/and so on.

The A 340-600 has an almost similar capacity as the 747-400.

Airbus cannot possibly make anything as elegant and great as the 747, but apart from appearance and style, the A3XX is specifically planned to compete with Boeing on the high capacities. But you just need to take a look at this ugly blimp with engines to know that the B747 will always be passenger's favourite....

Yes, the A340-600 will have nearly the same passenger capacity and range of the B747-400. Along with technology and design more than 10 years more advanced.

Airbus is developing the A3XX to match and compete with the Boeing 747.

Airbus does not currently have any product to compete against the 747-400. No aircraft has the capacity or the range that it has. As for the A340 being designed 10 years later the 747-400 both of these aircraft were introduced at the same time. While it can be said that the 747 was designed in the late 60's, the 747-400 was totally redesigned with a 2 man flight deck, new improved wings, along with newer efficient engines. The A340 itself can trace its history back to the A300 and A310.

I don't think the A340 can compete with the 747 as I see airlines with both A340 and 747-400 in their fleet uses A340 on smaller routes, a good example is CX on their US routes,, 744 to LAX/New York and A340 to SFO.
