Are any of these replacing other aircraft (props or f-100s) or is this expansion?

the ATR's and the Saabs wont be around for too much longer as CRJ's and ERJ's become more plentiful in their fleet. my quess is that when the ERJ's start rolling out in decent numbers the more heavily travelled routes served by the turbo's will be be switched to ERJ service. in 2 or 3 yrs it wont be uncommon to have an all jet fleet. that news is somewhat disconcerting to pilots who have a dream to fly the big iron... it might be awhile before many of us low time pilots say "heavy" to ATC. ::shrug::

Saab fleet on the way out between 2005-2007
ATR-72's remain in MIA and SJU for forseeable future.
More or less used as replacement flying, some for Saabs, most to replace downgraded mainline flying, not really expansion.

Thanks for all the replies.

How many SF340s are currently operated in the Eagle fleet? I know at DFW it seems they are almost all gone. How many are there in the north east, California and at MIA?

Do anyone think we will see any of these ERJs at STL?

"How many SF340s are currently operated in the Eagle fleet? I know at DFW it seems they are almost all gone. How many are there in the north east, California and at MIA?"

There were 13 SF3s listed as "active" in LAX, and 15 in DFW as of March. Can't be sure if this includes the "spares" at the moment. I'd need to pull the fleet list. I just heard they are pulling a few out of the desert in the near future to cover some flying as well, so those numbers may increase slightly. DFW & LAX are the only Saab domiciles now, as those in MIA, JFK & BOS were closed a while back.

"[Does] anyone think we will see any of these ERJs at STL?"

Most of the RJs in STL are American Connection/AX, not American Eagle. This is a serious bone of contention with the AE pilots as contractually Eagle is to be the only feeder for AA. If AMR is forced to abide by the contract, then you will see a lot more AE ERJs in STL. Until then, AMR may still try and continue to grow the AX feed and they also operate the ERJs.

As of now the only CRJ flying to the Bahamas will be DFW-NAS which starts in June.

As for the ATRs the 42s days are slowly being numbered, a couple have already been turned over to FedEx for conversion to freighters (along with some of CoEx's). As for the 72s expect them to be around for the forseable future, especially since the economics, cargo capablity, and short takeoff abilty works great for operating them out of MIA and SJU.

I bet they will use all the remaining CRJ7s to replace the F100s. After looking at my currant AA sched I was surprised to find they still have some Fokkers flying out of ORD. Didn't look like to many though. Maybe just 6 or 8.

So If they use all the CRJ7s for Fokker replacements and 30 or the ERJs for Saab replacements that leaves what, roughly 50 ERJs for expanded services.

Though there are some routes I cant see them flying ERJs on like DFW-Waco & Wichita Falls but you never know. They already have them going to SJT from DFW.

Viflyer,

Yes, this is correct for Bahamas flight very soon in June 10, 2004. If they are doing well for those passengers are flying to NAS this summer and will make extra flight from DFW-NAS later into the future.
