The search has been called off for the day due to fog and darkness. The surviving passengers, I hope there are passengers who survived the crash will have to spend the night in dense bush with basically no medical supplies. The Family's waiting at the airport will now have to spend the night worried about their loved ones who were on the flight. The search will resume tomorrow morning

Thans awful.

The big sports advert in the middle of the news.com.au post is very distasteful tho. lets hope there are survivors.

If you were flying a rescue helicopter through fog in unfamiliar terrain, heck yes it would be. It doesn't matter which country.

Actually, Brazil -is- a Western country, if my geography skills are correct...

"would that happen in a western country, would the search be called off." - As
JBird said in those conditions it would be, don't forget JAL123 where the search was called off for the night - only 4 of many made it through that night.

Also - Brazil is a western country

Ironically enough for me it was an advert for FLIGHT CENTRE!

Terrible news!

The AP is reporting that all 30 passengers and 3 crew members were killed. My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of everyone on board. This crash reminds me of my days with ASA and the 2 Brasilia crashes that we had. I haven't read that any distress call went out from the pilots so whatever happend must have happend quickly.

I really hope it was the flight that killed them and not the night after, but either way God bless.  Sad

I ont think its fair to ask if that woud happen in a 'western country. But you cant realy say cos its so geographically a huge area-look at Alive for instance; that search, was quite understandably called off. '

PlaneviewNYC... I think it's just you. According to http://www.airdisaster.com there have only been seven fatal crashes involving the EMB 120. Also, the EMB 120s accident rate is .71 per seven million flights, and ranks 8th out of 19 in safety. It's accident rate is near that of the A320 family (including A319, A320, A321), which ranked seventh. More can be found at http://www.airdisaster.com/statistics/. For statistics, the SAAB 340 was ranked safest based on number of fatal incidents per flights performed and the MD-80 ranked second. The Concorde ranked last and the MD-11 ranked second to last. FYI.

Embraer's vice-president offered, this morning (Monday - 17/5) a specialized team to Brazilian authorities to help to clarify causes of accident.
