Is The Launch Of Www.flyi.com Imminent?

Sun May 16, 2004 11:49 pm

www.flyi.com is now giving me an error message. Does this mean they are in the process of uploading the "real" website for people to buy tickets from.

The "preview" website has been available at www.flyi.com for several months.

Is anyone else excited??!!

Its not necessarily their webserver that is off. I did some probing and they have removed the A record for www.flyi.com from their primary and secondary DNS servers. This would indicate that they wish to have their server online but inaccessible to anyone who didn't know it's direct IP address. I think this could add some weight to the theory that they are in the process of cutting over to a live site. I also saw a referral to nscss2.flyi.com in their DNS but that machine does not appear to be running web services (I can ping it however).

Removing the records from the DNS server is a very bizarre way to take a site down for maintenance or uploading. I would *never* do this as it is very unprofessional for customers or potential customers to see a no-page-found message. A more standard approach is to have your firewall or web service director or whatever it is you use direct web traffic to a different box w/ a "currently performing maintenance" splash screen,

In addition, the link from the atlanticcoast.com home page has been cut. But ACA has always marched to the beat of a different drummer. That said, there's no reason for worry.

To answer the original question, yes, the new web site is on its way. But the exact date and time is still under wraps.

I emailed Independence Air about two or three weeks ago to ask them when tickets would be available. They replied that they would make an official announcement on May 16 (today) about their destinations and tickets would be available soon after. However, I didn't see any sort of press release yet, so we shall see. Maybe there has been some sort of delay in the final process and that is why their site is not live and running yet.

I called "Sally" (1-800-FLY-FLY-I) and she said that the phone number would be online on Wednesday, and that employees should not test the line after Tuesday. She also said that the cities list has not yet been published.

Whatever happen to...

If you sign up at flyi.. you will learn information before the official press release? Well, when are they going to let all of us that signed up know? The last minute? That's not much of a fore-warning...

Just got my copy of "The Advocate" (the newsletter put out from the National Advocacy Center here in Columbia to DOJ employees) and they mention Indy starting up operations from IAD to CAE on 6/16. Considering "The Advocate" is distributed out to people who have to make travel plans from DC to Columbia fairly frequently and at the lowest cost, I'm putting stock in this. So hopefully, one destination/start-up date is known.

Independenc Air distributed a release today saying that the cities will be announced Wednesday, when I assume the site will be up.

Looks like the same old website is up now. Wonder what really took it down last night?

If flights are supposed to start this summer shouldn't they pretty much be up and running by now so people can fill up the flights??  Big thumbs up
