Fuel Prices And Old Fleets

Tue May 18, 2004 1:08 am

Do you think the higher fuel prices will prompt carriers with older fleets to begin looking at options for replacement aircraft?

Luckily DL, UA, and AA retired their 727s early! it would be really expensive to operate them.  Laugh out loud

CO is getting Winglets that should help out. Maybe other carriers, such as DL and AA, will follow suit after they see the results CO has.

I wonder how Russian carriers operate Tu-134, Tu-154, and Il-62, -76, -86 when they use so much fuel. I guess fuel is cheaper in Russia...

Sovietjet,

Maybe because they can't afford new ones because of the losses from the excessive fuel cost?

I don't know I don't think it's THAT excessive. I guess you could compare Tu-134s and -154s to a 727. And I think a Tu-134 comes close to Bae-146. But if they got rid of them and bought new planes they wont have to worry about fuel and could afford them maybe?? And Aeroflot is keeping their Tu-134s for a while still as you can see they're painting them in the new colors. Still more fuel than a 737...I'm interested in the fuel issues of Russian carriers.
