LAX…coming This Fall To NBC

Tue May 18, 2004 6:48 am

NBC has a new crime drama in its fall lineup called LAX starring Heather Locklear as an airport chief.  Confused lets keep our fingers crossed that this one will do the aviation world some justice. You can read about it here.

I'll be most interested to see if Ms. Locklear can make the transition from "Dynasty" to where she'll be able to tell me how to run my airport.  Big grin

I'll be most interested in the short skirts that Ms. Locklear is known for wearing.

Hmm... and somehow they'll fool us into believing Dallas Love Field is LAX?

Notice the L1011 in the picture on CNN! They are filming this show using an ex-Northeast Bolivian Airlines L1011. Before and after shots:

That poor Northeast bird has been around! This ex-TWA bird was stored in Tucson since 1998 when TWA retired their L10s! In 2003 it was brought back to life and that sharp livery was expensively painted for a new Northeast airline to serve Africa (never happened), then they painted "Bolivian Airlines" for new service in that country. That didn't pan out either, so now it gets to be a hollywood prop!

Hoping we get some cool shots of this jet along with its interior.

Well I hope that they leave the A/C on super cold for the show to be of any interest to me!

Anyone know the story behind the co-opted livery?

Probably quite a few incidents of people joining the mile high club will make the storyline.  Big grin

How many times will we see that restaurant that has nothing to do with running the airport? Maybe it will be depicted as her living quarters.

Okay. The first episode. She is sound asleep and is awakened by the thunder of Air Force One's engines breaking every window in her pad. She grounds the plane until the bill is paid for the replacement windows. The delay creates an international crisis and we almost wind up in WWIII. She saves the day when she shows up in one of those short skirts, but forgets to wear underwear. The bill gets paid and everyone leaves smiling. The jet takes off and the thunder of the engines break all the replacement windows. Everybody wants to go back and apologise. She says, "No thanks, I"m a Democrat. Contact departuer on 28.7. Have a good day".

Lets just hope that this has some actually basis in aviation. She is not famous for serious intellectual and informative TV shows. The sights won't be too bad though, Airplanes... Heather Locklear... Airplanes...

This should be a fun TV show - kind of a cross between Dallas, Knots Landing and Airline....I am sure it will be worth watching just to note the mistakes that are made with details and information regarding aircraft......I can already see MD80s departing LAX on nonstop flights to Europe! By the way, the original name of this show was HUB, but that was dropped since the average televison view did not associate the word HUB with a show about airlines, no, I am not kidding.

I am sure the cast of characters will involve a sexy airport manager, a drunk pilot, flight attendants in disfunctional relationships, the token gay ticket agent, the macho baggage handler who is having an affair with the airport manager and meet at a nearby airport hotel, and probably the singing nun left over from Airport 75, with a shot of an airplane every few minutes just to remind us that we are watching LAX. Tune in next week for another episode of "As the Airport Turns"....

No runs, no hits, 50000 errors, and no one left watching when this show comes on I bet...

Supposedly, the man who set up the new African carrier who originally revived two or three long-stored TWA L1011s was an aviation enthusiast who loved that livery (I agree, it's sharp!)

But he's a lousy businessman, and he pulled out of the deal after the flights had started, leaving a crew completely stranded in Burkina Faso! One of these sharp planes is still there being held for landing fees, etc. I doubt anyone will ever rescue it.

C'mon guys, Heather ran a pretty tight ship as head of D&D Advertising on Melrose. I'm sure she'll make a heck of an airport chief.

BoeingGoingGone:

I think Anna Nicole would make a better captain than Nicole Kidman!

DutchJet:

I am still ROFL over your summary. More brilliant than that show will ever be!

All:

Heather Locklear is well known for not wearing nylons with those high-heels.

Heather Locklear - great. That means its not going to be a very serious show.
The only takeoffs will be clothing (a la Melrose Place).
Can't wait to see it!
None shall pass!!!!

"Airline" is a surprise success. Because of this. . .any show being produced now will be trying to ride that wave. Finally. . .airlines/airports/airliners are HOT and interesting. Maybe this wave from Hollywood will be more realistic than decades past. . .

When they end this show for whatever reason, do you think it will be known as ex-LAX? Just asking.

Well, I think that this show will be a total failure...but it still will be fun while its on. I just cannot see a made up show about an airport...a REAL airport, might I add, working. Hollywood is not known for making the most serious scripts, and when it comes to airplanes (something Hollywood people travel on VERY often), its is considered just a means of transportation. When is the last time you've seen the TV show "Bus"....just can't work. In my opinion, the hot actresses is all that will keep this show afloat.

Altohugh, whoever said Airline is doing well makes a valid point. We all thought it would die in a few episodes...woh would have known that we'd have Airline UK, Airline Excess Baggage, and Airline 2...so, who knows.

Agreed once again! they just might get the whole aviation jargon incorrect for starters. Down the drain it goes...... LOL!!
