MAN-DOH, Which Route?

Wed May 19, 2004 4:45 am

Hey guys,
I have a friend whos flying to Doha this year and we are curious as to if he'll fly over Iraq?

Ok you can laugh at us but we don't know and things like great circle mapper and the flight planner in FS all have you going over Basra etc.

Anyway thanks for your help

Route will vary depending on the weather on the day. For a route like DOH-MAN there are many different routes you can take, either to avoid headwinds/adverse weather, or to take advantage of tailwinds. Most of the time a flight from the Middle East to the UK will be flown against a headwind.

Whatever route chosen - you can't fly the great circle, you'll have to stick to the airways!

Also, it's generally down to company policy whether you overfly Iraq or not.
