Massive Delays On The East Coast

Wed May 19, 2004 5:14 am

A lot of these are Support Swap...what does that mean?
ATL: T-Storms impacting terminal: Ground Stop and Ground Delay program: 1 hour 2 min delays
ORD: T-Storms & Wind: Ground Delay Program: 1 hour 33 min delays..additionally: gate hold: 1 hour-1 hr 15 mins
STL: T-Storms: ground stop
BOS: Support Swap 1 hour 3 mins
BWI: T-Storms...35 mins
CLE: Support Swap...39 mins
CLT: Support Swap...46 mins
CVG: T-Storms...39 mins
DFW: support Swap...42 mins...gate hold16-30 mins
IAD: T-Storms: 1 hour 34 mins
IAH: Support swap: 43 mins
MDW: Support Swap: 1 hour 21 mins...gate hold 30-44 mins
DAL: gate hold 30-44 mins
EWR: Gate hold 16-30 mins

NOT FUN AT ALL! My freind is on a DL flight to ATL...he has a 50 minute delay FLL-ATL! Not a fun way to start a cruise!

NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

Looking at the NWS radar out of FFC (Peachtree City), ATL is going to miss some of the heavy stuff, but it will be affected since one of those cells is to the west of them, right in the flight paths. They may get some other heavy storms later in the early evening, as there are some strong cells to the SW that could impact the airport based on the current movement of those cells.

That could be bad news for some EWR folks like myself. My mom is flying to Tampa this evening, so I would expect some sort of a delay.

PHL could become a lot worse in a litte bit. According to the radar there's a major sever batch of weather moving through central PA right now.

Yeah, I flew out of DTW today, my flight was fine, but everything headed East was delayed big time. The deicing pad at the hold for 21R was packed with about 8 aircraft all headed to points east. Also saw some what I assume were diversion aircraft like an Eagle ERJ-145 (only get 135's in DTW), a CO MD-80, and two US CRJ's.

I lived these delays. I don't need a thred to tell me about them.  Laugh out loud

Actually, they were ten times worse last night.

For CO, we can't buy a break right now. If the WX is good in EWR and CLE, it sucks in IAH; if it's decent in IAH and CLE, it sucks in EWR; if it's OK in EWR and IAH, CLE gets hammered.

Welcome to CO Summer.  Big grin

Well that's what you get for having a hub in a thunderstorm-prone area like Houston where TSTRMS are a daily occurance...

Haven't seen any of it tonight yet in Hampton Roads. Flight operations tonight went smooth, no delays or cancellations at all here at Oceana.

I love it - over a century of flight and we're still slaves to the weather  Big grin

As a controller I can clear planes right through thunderstorms all day but for some reason those darn pesky pilots seem to want to go around them  Big thumbs up
