United 747-400's At SEA Recently

Thu May 20, 2004 5:09 pm

Recent days have seen some 747-400's of UAL at Sea-Tac. I saw one arrive Monday, May 17 around 0800. Another was there Wednesday, May 19, leaving sometime after 1600. Were these diversions? Any info appreciated, especially registrations of said planes.

An aircraft swap on the NRT flight possibly?

A number of Pacific flights are being upgauged to 747-400 as United brings them out of the desert. This flight could be one of them.

The SEA-NRT flights are still scheduled on a 777. Maybe these were one or two day replacement's?

I thought I heard UAL 876 was a -400 on weds. However that A/C leaving after 1600 doesn't make sense.

They were replacements, one I believe was a 767 replacement.

It was a bad day in DEN, full flights and over sells. I checked the status of a flight I needed to get a lady on and they upgraded the plane to a 747, she was happy and I was happy and she left me alone for the rest of the day.

Justplanesmart...

Thanks for posting that. I had noticed that too and thought it was unusual. Usually the only four engine aircraft I see into Boeing field are SAS A340s, BA 744s, some EVA 744s and the occasional CargoLux 744. I pointed out the UA 744 to my fiance and she was more or less "big deal you airplane geek" :-P

UA has 2 763's at SEA right now.

UA #316 SEA-ORD Departs SEA @0640
UA #644 SEA-ORD Departs SEA @0900

None scheduled to DEN now. 2 777's, SEA-DEN #254 Departs 1355 SEA-NRT #875 Departs 1245

You mean SEA right? Not Boeing field!!

Don't think you'll ever see a planned 340 at Boeing field

According to flytecomm.com, on 5/19, UAL #758 was a 744, leaving SEA at 16:19 for ORD.

I think you're leaving out NW's 742s that operate daily out of SEA, China Eastern is there everyday with a 744, as well as BAX and DHL with DC-8's. And I'm probably leaving someone out.

Are you sure about that China Eastern 744? Unless they have acquired some cargo ones recently or are wet-leasing them from someone like Atlas, they don't have any 747s. They have concentrated their longhaul on 343s, 346s, and the MD11s until the latter are disposed of (I think that they decided to convert them to cargo). Or, did you mean Air China? I don't recall them flying to SEA though.

Now you have me wondering, but I think I may stand corrected and China Eastern's flight is a MD-11.

We do get a number of cargo carriers though that operate 747's thru here on a non-daily basis.

as well as BAX and DHL with DC-8's

Great to see those old UA DC-8's still flying proud!  Big thumbs up

Actually, I'd bet a few lattes that those DC-8s actually fly into BFI, not SEA.

Someone had posted a rumor that UA would start putting 744's on the SEA-NRT route soon, and guess that was the 1% of all rumors that actually come true? I would think they're only seasonal, and we can expect 772's back in the fall.

China Eastern does not operate 747 Passenger Versions (come to think of it, i dont even think they do cargo either).

Probably an A340 or MD-11

BAX is more infrequent, but the DHL or Star (whatever they are going by now) DC-8 is daily. Also infrequent 4 hole visitors are Polar and Kalitta.

Not sure about the UA NRT flight going to a 744.

DHL was flying into SEA but I believe they have switched to BFI.
China Airlines Cargo 747 flies out of SEA, but not on a daily basis, I think.

Some of these have been flying SEA-DEN when one or more of the SEA-DEN flights were cancelled and/or overbooked.

BAX/ATI has flown out of BFi for a while, DHL just switched a couple of weeks ago.

In addition China Airlines will start A340 passenger flights mid-June.

Air China 74F
China Eastern MD11F
Martinair MD11F
3 FedEx DC/MD10's

I haven't seen the Cargolux 74F for a while. Any ideas???

Thanks for the info, I found out from an ACARS log that the Wednesday a/c was N175UA, came in as UA 755, and departed as UA 758. So that takes care of that one. Still looking for info about the Monday morning arrival that I saw.

Also, flytecomm shows EVA putting a 744 into SEA.

United Fan

Just FYI EVA has run the -400 on the SEA-TPE route for years. It's a 744Combi. Half pax, half cargo.

I had heard EVA was switching this at a 777. Anyone know for sure???

For pax flights

BA 744 LHR
BR 744 TPE

Then all the cargo 74F's

Wonder if China Airlines will still run the 74F once the 340 to TPE starts running?
