Independence Air At IND

Thu May 20, 2004 9:34 pm

I know the service between IND-IAD is supposed to start on 8/15. I was just wondering where at IND the airline will be. For them to offer 7 flights between the two cities it sounds like they would need a gate of their own. The only possibility i see is putting them in the D concourse with USAirways (US operates out of most of those gates but not enough to NEED all of them).

Concourse D sounds logical. A is filled up with Southwest and Northwest. B is filled with American and Delta. Finally, C is filled with United, Continental, and ATA. Concourse D seems to be the only logical solution since UsAirways doesn't nearly use all those gates! At least, not like they use to back in the early 90's.

Or you could move Southwest over to concourse D to be with USAirways and let Indpendence AIr have concourse A.  Acting devilish

7E7-I don't believe that the jetways on the odd-numbered side of the D concourse can handle anything larger than a Regional Jet, and I'd guess (I don't know for sure) that Chautauqua owns those gates...regardless, there are several gates that, although US Airways/Chautauqua (all USX flying into IND is done by Chautauqua) owns them, haven't been used in nearly a decade...as a result, there is no reason why US Airways/Chautauqua couldn't be asked (read: compensated) to turn D7 or D9, or both, over to Independence...my question is, are there suddenly going to be 40 more gates at IND when the new terminal opens up, or is the currently-used terminal going to get the wrecking ball?

i do know that no airlines will be using the old terminal once the new one is completed. What they plan on doing with the old building is what i am still trying to find out.

Are there any suggestions/ideas on where to go for pictures of this first day of service?
