7E7-I don't believe that the jetways on the odd-numbered side of the D concourse can handle anything larger than a Regional Jet, and I'd guess (I don't know for sure) that Chautauqua owns those gates...regardless, there are several gates that, although US Airways/Chautauqua (all USX flying into IND
is done by Chautauqua) owns them, haven't been used in nearly a decade...as a result, there is no reason why US Airways/Chautauqua couldn't be asked (read: compensated) to turn D7
or D9, or both, over to Independence...my question is, are there suddenly going to be 40 more gates at IND
when the new terminal opens up, or is the currently-used terminal going to get the wrecking ball?
