I am an ex-Eastern employee--customer service agent. I was the 1st part-timer that was hired when EA
began service in PHX
back on Oct 1, 1979. I was fortunate enough to spend 8 yrs with them working on the ramp in PHX
, customer service in PHX
, and reservations in SLC
. I've worked A300, L1011, DC9-30/50, and both 727-100/200 on the ramp and customer service side. The A300 is a sweet aircraft to work as it had the automated container loading system---man that was nice (when it worked properly).
Travelled to many places with Eastern as well---SJU
, just to name a few of the more exotic places. They were a fine company to work at until Frank Lorenzo got hold of it and sold it off piece by piece--including SystemOne (CRS system), and the AirShuttle. I heard at the time of the demise that Latin America, Europe, and the Caribbean were next on the chopping block. Last I heard NW
is flying some of the old DC9-30's, TWA had some of the -30's as well as most of the -50's, NW
retired the last of the EA
727-200's recently (I believe it to be N825EA), and I also heard a rumor that AA
had a couple of EA
757's that they didn't take delivery on, as well as CO
having the A300 and 757's.
Recently I did see an old EA
still flying around....N887Z which is now a cargo bird with Charter America. It was here at RDU
just a couple of days ago and seems to be quite a regular visitor here being here about 2 or 3 times a week.
Those were the days.......
