Major Maintenance On Runway At YUL

Fri May 21, 2004 12:22 pm

Yesterday i was going spotting and i saw runway 24L closed with cones in many place.
i go see ADM web site and saw this :

«Major Maintenance Work on Runway 06R-24L

In order to ensure that its facilities remain compliant with current reliability and safety standards, Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) will be embarking on major repair works that will involve closing Runway 06R-24L at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (formerly Dorval) from May 8 to October 15, 2004. Major rework of this nature will not be required for approximately 15 years

Because of the interim measures necessary to control aircraft movements, ADM expects this work to temporarily modify the airport soundscape:

From May 8 to July 18, 2004, only Runways 10-28 and 06L-24R will be in operation;
From July 19 to October 15, 2004, in addition to the aforementioned restriction, there will be no takeoffs from Runway 10.

Existing procedures to control and abate noise generated by air traffic will remain in effect during the work: restricted night flights, flight paths planned in order to reduce noise and runway assignment that limit overflying of residential areas at night.»

There gonna repave the entire runway, and that includes electrical, drainage, lighting, the works !!

It's gonna make for a very hectic summer in YUL!

us Air Traffic Controllers have a good record, we haven't left one up there yet !!
