Is There A Bart Station At OAK?

Sat May 22, 2004 4:55 am

Later this summer, I'm planning a trip with my friend to go visit her friends out in Dublin, California. The Bay Area airports include SJC, SFO, and OAK. San Jose is too far, so that's out of the question. SFO is further away from Dublin than OAK is, but SFO has a BART station. Flying into SFO is also about $100 more roundtrip. OAK is pretty much the most convenient, as it's the closest. However, we aren't going to rent a car (I'm 17, she's 18), and BART is the cheapest thing going. So, I'm wondering if Oakland Airport has a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport, I think it is) station.

Thanks to all that reply  Smile!

You take a shuttle to the Coliseum BART Station. Details here

BART is very convenient from OAK. You'll take a shuttle called Air Bart from Oakland Airport to the Oakland Colliseum BART Station. From there you can hop on BART out to Dublin. I don't recall what the price for Air Bart is, but the last time I rode it exact change was required. Don't spend an extra $100 to fly into SFO. The link that someone provided you should provide you with fare info for both BART and the Air Bart shuttle. Good luck.

Pan Am - going to OAK? No problem.

For $2 you can take the AirBART shuttle to the Airport/Coliseum station. From there it will be a 20-25 minute ride on the Dublin BART line to the Dublin/Pleasanton station. The shuttle drive takes 10-20 minutes depending on traffic. Allow at least an hour and a half from the time you land to the time you'll be picked up in Dublin.

there is a bus called airbart at oakland- it's $2. the bus stop is right outside the terminal. airbart takes you on a 15min ride to the oakland airport/colisuem bart station. it's pretty convenient, except if you're carrying a lot of luggage.

i would definitely pick oakland over sfo if you're going to dublin. the bart ride from sfo will be very very long.  Smile

Thanks to everyone who replied! I just did a re-check of the airfares, and OAK is $342, where SFO stands at a solid $294 round-trip, from SYR, in July! That's ludicrous! I'll be purchasing the tickets sometime next week when plans are finalized, and I believe I'm going to be flying into/out of OAK. I originally planned for a $400-ish fare, so $342 isn't a problem  Smile. Thanks again!

Even if you took the cheaper fare into SFO you wouldn't be gaining much - the roundtrip BART fare from SFO to Dublin is around $12!

I wouldn't do the Bart transfer at night.

The BART station was a little sketchy in Oakland, I heard a few phrases like "do you have $5", but the more time I spent in the bay area I learned that west coast beggers juts seem to have their goals set higher.

Generally I did this transfer pretty well from the bus to the station and if you're a single guy you'll be fine.

There's nothing to worry about re transfering at night. I've done it countless times. The station is well-lit and there are video cameras on every train car. Nothing to worry about.

My advice is to fly into SFO, save the cash, get straight onto the BART at the airport, not screw around with AirBART, transfer and go to Dublin.

Yes OAK has a BART station. I went through it last summer and it was great. BART has stations all up the OAK side of the Bay. Newark, OAK, San Leandro and many more that i cant remember have one.

That was the whole premise for this entire post.

I have taken the Air Bart bus from the airport to the BART station and the BART train to Dublin. No problem whatever. I think you buy your bus ticket in the airport and the train ticket at the BART station. Bring some single $1.00 bills, the easiest since they are all ticket machines.

in OAK at the air bart stop you can also use your credit card (at least when i was up there you could) I'm sure they still have that option. Like the others that said, the station is well lit so there should be no problem (security wise) over there.
