A380 Questions

Sat May 22, 2004 7:21 am

I've read a lot about the A380 but for what we know now:

Which airlines are going to fly the A380 (how much A380's?)for certain and/or which problably will?
And on which route are they going to use them, or will problably going to use them?

The routes are guesses

AF - 10 (CDG (and maybe even AMS)- MEX, NRT, LAX, PPT, MIA, JNB)
EK - 43 (everywhere, given the amount they've ordered)
KE - 5 (ICN - NRT, KIX, LAX, FRA, LHR)
LH - 15 (FRA - MEX, HKG, NRT, HKG, SIN)
MH - 6 (KUL - NRT, LAX, LHR, FRA, CDG)
QF - 12 (SYD - NRT, LAX, LHR, CDG, FRA)
QR - 2 (no idea)
SQ - 10 (SIN - LHR, FRA, CDG, NRT, LAX)
FedEx - 10
VS - 6 (LHR - LAX, SYD, JNB)
ILFC - 10

potentials

SA (LHR - JNB)
BA (LHR - LAX, ORD, JFK, SFO)
Various Chinese airlines are said to be interested
possibly JL or maybe NH

EK basically wants to attack all other large international carriers on their routes, for example route LHR HGK or the kangaroo route over dubia instead nonstops or SIN stopovers. i guess they need all the planes for expansion on slot restricted airports such as LHR and also to open up new routes in asia.
they play with high stakes, but they seem to have(i dont blame them for it) the cheap gas advantage on their home plate.
that, paired with competetive pricing, great levels of service and a very company friendly enviroment in regard to the legal status of workers make EK a very potential airline, especially with such a progressive management.

some of their planes can always get leased out to for example BA if they discover that they do not need the capacity STAT and BA realizes its loosing customers on the kangaroo route to EK and QF.

To add to Roberta's post, AF will also serve JFK and YUL with the A380.

I believe the first cities to be served by the A380 will be DXB, LHR, and SIN. Expect HKG and SFO to be served by the A380 once SQ switches from the 747-400 to the A380 on SQ 001/002 flight route some time in 2006.  Smile

If BA orders the A380 be sure they will fly to MEX.
