I am not sure about any US airliners, but cargo, I believe FedEx is in line. I have seen ads, but like I said, I am not sure if its true! I sure would hope to see them in AA or CO!

Here is the order list

AF - 10
EK - 43
KE - 5
LH - 15
MH - 6
QF - 12
QR - 2
SQ - 10
FedEx - 10
VS - 6
ILFC - 10

I reckon BA SA HN JL may consider ordering eventually, not until the A/C is proven.

F.y.i.: The generic way to look after orders:
Airbus: -> Site Map -> Orers&Deliveries updates monthly.
Boeing: -> Commercial Airplanes -> O&D, updates weekly AFAIK.

As someone mentioned, I doubt anyone in the US except Fed Ex will be operating these birds anytime soon. It is such a huge jump in capacity for most of them. Plus, UPS, is trying to cut capacity with the deferment and/or cancellation of some of their A300F orders currently - I have that from Airliners International magazine.

How many of those orders other than the ones for Fed Ex are for cargo aircraft?

Iowa744fan, according to La Tribune, a French paper, UPS is in talk with Airbus concerning the A380F. UPS might switch some A306F for A380s.

Other than FedEx, ILFC has 5 A380F on order and I think EK ordered 2 A380F as well.

No ScottysAir CX seem reluctant to order the A380 but have shown support for the 747adv.

UPS is looking at swapping 300F orders for 380F. United and NW, if they can pull themselves from the gutter would be good 380 potentials for Asian markets. CO won't as Gordo does not like smelly pax. AA does not seem to have a good relationship with Airbus. As with 744, most markets will be non US.

BA/JL/GA/AI/CZ/Air China/CI/BR all good candidates

YUL332X, really? That is interesting. The article had only mentioned that they were trying to cut domestic capacity. However, with them disposing of their 747Fs, I can see them looking to acquire a new longhaul aircraft to fly to Asia and Europe from the US. I wonder where they will fly them out of? Does anyone know what the runway situation is like in Louisville? How about in Ontario, Anchorage, Newark, or any of their other larger stations?
As far as I am concerned though, if it will get some of those birds over here so that I can see them live, OK!!!  Smile

I still have my doubts about airlines like UA and NW purchasing them. Although there are some routes in key cities like Tokyo, Heathrow, Amsterdam, and maybe Frankfurt, I don't think that the cost of acquisition and training will be beneficial for so few aircraft. Plus, UA and NW are both reducing capacity on many routes with 777s, 332s, and 333s on many routes. Still, that is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own!  Smile

UA will grow again one day....... if they survive.

But still, I would rather see them buying B 747 Advanced along with some B 777-200ERs.

Iowa744fan, take a look at this (UPS):

http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/040521/transport_airbus_ups_4.html

It was posted on A.net a couple of days ago.

UPS could also decide to go for the 332F instead but in that case, it would not reduce their domestic capacity... So, that remains to be seen!

Also, AW&ST (may 17) had an extensive report on JL and stated that JL "was still evaluating A380's application for overseas travel...". However, the A380 is not considered for domestic routes.

My question is, WHAT ON EARTH is Emirates going to do with FOURTY-THREE A380s!?!??! A couple for the royal family maybe.... and the rest?!?

AA777, this is a regular, and I don't expect them to have a problem filling those planes. They fill three 777s (mostly -300s) to London every day (+ extra flights to Gatwick) and every flight is full. I expect it to be the same to other cities throughout Europe, and everyone on those planes transits DXB and flies on to India, SE Asia, and Oz. I would expect to see at least 15 A380 flights a day to Europe, and a similar number to India and onwards. Each flight to Oz takes 2 days (round trip) so just for Sydney and Melbourne they'll need at least 4 aircraft. As India continues to grow into an economic superpower I can only imagine that Emirates will be poised to benefit massively, and need every seat they can get, especially as Air-India are completely useless.

Valid points Cedarjet, but are they buying these airplanes on speculation? Are they hoping to grow their business to the point where the volume justifies the numbers of airframes? I can see how there will be airlines that can use the 600pax birds effectively, but on such a scale they are taking a huge risk. Back home we sometimes call it letting your bulldog pride write checks your chihuahua bank account cant cash.

On the other hand, I respect the hell out of them for taking the risk and trying to grab the marketshare preemptively. I wish Boeing had something to offer in that size category, keep the competition honest and let the airlines get the best value.

YUL332X,
Thanks for the link. That would be interesting to see those UPS 380 birds. UPS has a regional sorting facility here in Des Moines, but we don't really see anything larger than the 763F and A300F except during Christmas. We usually see a few 747Fs around then. Unfortunately, I don't think that Des Moines would ever be upgraded to be able to handle something like the 380.

A quick question. Someone mentioned JAL and NH looking. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how long it would take to turn around an A380 with probably around 800 passengers on some of those segments? Does anyone know how long it takes to turn a 744 or 773 with 550 some seats on any of these segments?

Also, yes, I hear that LCY traffic is booming! That and they reinforced the docks with titanium to support all that weight!  Smile

Iowa744fan, as I said in my previous post, JL is considering the A380 for long haul operations only; not for domestic routes. So, an A380 in JL's configuration would not seat much more than 500 pax and the predicted turn-around time in that case is likely to be about the same as the 747.

Mr. Keneko, JL's CEO, said that the reason they are not considering the A380 for domestic routes is simply 'cause they want to keep "domestic widebodies" as small as possible. Regarding NH, I have no idea what their plans are...

On a side note, LCY is getting ready to receive the A380  Smokin cool  Laugh out loud

Btw, has EK announced their projected configuration for the A380?
