I have heard that the main reason SAA switched from BKK
is because of a codeshare with Cathay. Do people know if this was the main reason, or if SAA was disappointed with load factors out of BKK
? The latter would seem a little doubtful if Thai is looking to start service. Plus, with SAA joining Star, do you think that the route will stay in HKG
? I must admit that I was a little surprised this past winter when stepping off a Thai flight from BKK
to see a sign for passengers transferring to the evening SAA departure to Jo'burg.
Also, I agree that it would be nice to see someone like AA
going to South Africa.
Finally, I agree with Aviationwiz about our media and their protrayal of African airlines. In their defense, the majority of crashes are often by less safe carriers, and they are not going to go out and report how the daily SAA flight arrived on time, etc. It is too bad though, since it really casts a bad shadow on some airlines like SAA, Kenya, Egyptair, etc.
