Star Alliance 7E7 Order?

Mon May 24, 2004 1:16 am

The rumors on this subject have gone down lately, but I still am wondering whether anyone has some news about this. What Star airlines could possibly buy the plane?

ANA (All Nippon Airways) from Japan has recently ordered 50 7E7 from Boeing. They are therefore going to be the launch customer. ANA is a member of Star Alliance.

I think / / / U N I T E D will buy the 7E7 to replace there 757 and 767. Of course 321 will also replace the 757 as well IMHO.

I think United's future fleet will be:
maybe 717 or 318
319/320/321
7E7/772/773
maybe 744 / 744 with 7E7 tech

just my opinion  Smile

A Star Alliance carrier already ordered 50- All Nippon.

If United wasn't in such bad shape, I could definitely see them buying 7E7s to replace the 757s and 767s.

THAI maybe down the road to replace the A330s

LOT also to replace the 767s

Singapore maybe

Lufthansa, BMI, Air Canada, SAS NO WAY.

United doesn't need the 773 as long as they have 744s.

Lufthansa, BMI, Air Canada, SAS NO WAY.

Actually, LH is supposedly close to ordering to replace their A300s. They had some concerns because the 7E7 won't have a sidestick, but last I read that wasn't a big issue anymore.

Once they are able to financially do it, United is pretty much a sure bet for the 7E7. I would also love for UA to get 717s, but I'm not holding my breath (for either the 717 or A318).

LH and SQ are very strong possibilities since LH has a fleet of A300/A310s to replace and SQ has been looking for a 757/A310 replacement for quite some time.

BTW, when is that huge Star order going to be announced?

I would say that the SQ order for the 7E7 is almost a given. They don't seem to be to receptive to any modifications of the A330 family and they have not been that satisfied with the 772s on many of their shorter routes.

As for LH, I guess that they do have the large 300/310 fleet to replace. I assume that Airbus has offered the same modified A330s to them that they offered to SQ. We will have to wait and see.

United would definitely be a contender for the 7E7 if they had the money to purchase them. AC has the large fleet of 762s and 763s, but they are in the same boat financially as UA (Varig too).

I don't know the situation with SAS, so no comment there. I could see some of the smaller carriers (LOT, Lauda, or ANZ) purchasing the 7E7 if LH and/or SQ do and if they could get a group deal...which they probably could.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year plays out.

Would like to see more American carriers get involved in researching the idea of using the 7E7 as a replacement for the 757 or something else. Cheers.

American carriers have been involved with Boeing in designing the 7E7. The problem is that none of them could afford it right now. Continental's CEO Bethune said something like "we want the 7E7, we just don't want to pay for it now." As the industry improves, and the airlines are making some money, they could worry about replacing their fleets.

American, United, Delta, and Continental are all very likely to operate the 7E7. There have been rumors about NW and ATA as well.

I seriously doubt NW will order 7E7 unless Airbus really screws up on their order for A330s. NW is a committed Airbus customer, their 757s still have plenty of life in them (some are brand spankin' new), and they have a huge fleet of A320 series aircraft with a lot of commonality with the A330s.

Regarding LH:
I don´t really see that order getting through. The A300/310 fleet isn´t that big. Actually the A310 have left the operating fleet already and the A300 stand at 11. LH always stressed the point that a new a/c in their fleet doesn´t pay off at a number of less than 15 airframes....
On the other hand LH wants to keep some good relation with both Airbus and Boeing, therefor a Boeing order should be considered rather sooner than later....

OS/NG:
the Austrian Airlines Group has quite a diverse (longhaul) fleet (A332/342/343/B763/772). From a marketing point of view I would wish that they exchange the whole fleet (safe the 777 maybe) with the 7E7. It would give them a great flexibility for their operation.
The problem will be the cash. It seems that they are just about to get their financial situation back on track and probably don´t want to get into a limbo of ordering 15+ longhaul a/c at once.

KA.

So basically...there are two big orders to look out for: The Star mega-order, and the China Group order (which is expected to go to the 7E7 and is supposedly bigger than the NH order!

I'm sensing some big news from Boeing soon,

Since when are we expecting a Star Mega Order? Several Star airlines are rumored to be considering the aircraft, as are a handful of airlines that belong to various alliances, but I don't recall reading that any of the alliances would be ordering as a whole (like they did with the Embraer/Bombardier order).

Would love to see Air New Zealand taking on the 7E7. The timing of the 7E7 launch would be good to replace their 763s.

I still think LH will place an order for (at most) 20 7E7-3's for their intra-European high-density/high-capacity services.

This especially for AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA to LHR and possibly AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA to MAD services for starters.
