747-200 In PHX Today!

Tue May 25, 2004 11:34 am

Anyone know why this Air Atlanta Europe 747-267B was in PHX? It was there when I got to work this morning at 0500 and still there when I left, looking like it may be leaving soon. If anyone has any details on the aircraft, or who chartered it, would be greatly appreciated! It was being serviced by Delta airlines, or so it appeared, with all the Delta equipment.

Someone at work said it was actually chartered by Delta, but I think he only meant they were servicing it, I can't think why DL would charter a 747?

Could it be on it's way to storage somewhere? There were titles on this plane at one time. If it's all white, could that mean GYR could be a destination?

If it was going to Goodyear, why would it stop at Sky Harbor?

If the plane is coming from a foreign location the crew flying the plane would have to clear customs and I am pretty sure GYR does not have customs available.

It could have stopped for customs, but why would it stop so long- It's still here in PHX and it's around 1400. Also I have seen some DL service vehicles around the aircraft almost all day today, if it truly is headed to Goodyear, I dunno why they would be servicing the lavs and stocking it with food etc, as the commissary truck/van has been raised up to the aircraft both times I saw the plane today.
Oh well
cheers

Actually, goodyear does sound like a good hypothesis, maybe the vans have been up to the aircraft to clean it out.

I just can't think of anything off the top off my head right now that would require a 747 load capacity chartered into PHX.

It's still parked there. If you enter the airport from the 24th Street entrance you can drive right past it. It is pretty amazing.
