Was just down in CUN last month..looks like its shaping up to be a very nice looking airport, with all the shops and such. Now hopefully DL can land a few more slots down there. Maybe daily service from CVG and 1 or 2 more dailys from ATL. Now only if they could regulate those annoying Time Share dealers you run into every 2 feet @ arrivals.

Also, it is 2 daily from ATL-CUN on DL and 1 daily from ATL-CUN on AM. Also, 1 daily from CVG-CUN of DL flights, too.

Cun757,

Welcome to a.net!!

While I'm not sure how many international routes are flown from CUN, the answer is yes, by far. CUN is definitely the Mexican airport serving more international routes. I wouldn't be surprised if there are even charter flights to Kazahstan!!

Hi Cun757,

WELCOME ABOARD!

Im Javo, im a F.O. on the B737/700W of AEROMEXICO and fly into CUN a lot now, especially from ATL, and also MEX. I really hope the new runway starts to build, we really need it there. also more gates instead of hard stands.

I personally luv CUN, its great! One of the best beaches in the WORLD!

Well hope to hear from you soon!

How nice that you fly the new 37.... I'm an aviation lover, I'm really a Designer but I spend hours looking planes, its bad that here in CUN don't let me take pictures, you know the security, I use to fly on a helicopter and land in the FBO for refueling, I stay like one hour right in front of the runway and the planes pas just few meters from me, but bad luck the helicopter crash about a year ago so no more flights...
I have here a good friend who its a co pilot from AM hi flys the 67...
See you soon

Cun757, be welcome to the forums.

From your message: << its getting an expansion, they going to make a new runway, a cargo terminal and expanding the FBO terminal,... >>

What are your sources? And just what can you tell us about these plans? (1) The runway. It seems to me (looking at CUN from above) that there is not much space for the runway to be built within the existing perimeter. A new runway cannot be crammed between the existing 12-30 rwy and the Cancun-Merida toll highway (unless no simultaneous operations are intended... which would be a terrible oversight). It seems that the new rwy would have to be built farther south from the highway... In the middle of the jungle. The ecologists are gonna have a flip!!

(2) Where will the new cargo terminal be located? Last time I was in CUN, I noticed a portion of the jungle adjacent to the customhouse was being cleared... Would it be for this purpose?

(3) It seems to me the FBO area is already surrounded by construction... What would be the expansion like?

It is certainly going to be interesting to see what it comes to be like from now on.

Thank you Adriaticus... Its an Honor from me to Talk to you especial when I saw you on the forum many times...
Well, inside the terminal ASUR puts a display that shows all the new expansions, the runway they want to building in the other side of the airport... (if you looks the airport from the sea, on the right hand) it looks smaller than the actual one, and the planes are going to cross the entrance road of the airport, with two bridges...
The cargo terminal its suppose to be next to the charter terminal or terminal 1, in the plan it looks big...
And the FBO stays in the same place but the platform its getting bigger, I think they going to move some things around....

Welcome around, Cun757!!!

I hope you will be our eyes over CUN. All those developments you talk about will place CUN into a new international dimension. CUN deserves it.

By the way, it has been said MX is going to grow over CUN as well as the new project.

Keep us informed.

Cun757,

You know the exact time it takes to ride from CTM (Chetumal) to CUN? Looks like I'll be there on June and I was wondering if its worth driving to CUN. You know how much I'll have to pay on the toll road from CTM to CUN?

Do you know who operates service between Japan and CUN and which route and aircraft they use?

I see CUN as great Caribbean hub and a very nice alternative to MIA. With so many international ops i see this likely. However, a new terminal would be nice, and if we dream, a light railway link to Playa del Carmen would be cost effective. If that is too much, a bus terminal wil be good. Modern transport network needs to be developed in Mexico. Actually, employment, opprtunities and economic growth need wheels or wings. Most of Europe and the US was developed by rail and wings.

For all that give me the welcome on the forum... THANK YOU Very much it was so nice to start in here.... Be sure that IM going to be the a.net eyes in Cancun... Also I'm working to try to start to take pictures at the airport, but the people of ASUR are a little bit especial...
Well thanks again and let me tell you I'm not a pilot and I'm not work on any airline... The aviation its my favorite hobby and I'm going to try to do my best...

Hola CUN757

Glad to see someone else from this beautiful corner of the world taking part in this forum . Even though it is a small town, our operation here is actually very big, and busy. Specially on saturdays, when we dont have jetbridge gates for about 60% of all the flights operating (don´t quote me on that)! The airport, just as you stated, is actually expanding, and I hope you agree with me, is coming along pretty nice!

Also, and as an interesting note, I was just the other day down at Playa del Carmen. Have you seen the little terminal there that´s separated from the runway by the road that leads from downtown into Playacar? Preety nifty!!! Aint it?

Smart comment! Indeed we need more reailways and more runways in the country!

Cun757

Yes Im the one taking pictures from MEx!

Well from CUN to CHTML by car its about 4 hours...

Four hours!!! Hum... I'll then think about it... I would have to drive 8 hours myself! Its like going from MEx to ACA. Guess I'll try going instead to BZE and TIK. Or I'll see if I can rent a Cessna in Chetumal or better stay at the hotel resting and spotting naked Mexican/European ladies in the beach or at the pool!

Aacun,

Which airline do you fly for? If its possible to know....

Ghost... Nice pictures you take, in DF you have many places to take them, here its no possible only if you go in to the jungle... I'm trying to have a permission from ASUR to take pictures on the platform, but you know how long this can take...
Aacun... Hi, nice to meet someone from CUN also, maybe one day we can meet and talk about planes and maybe take some shots in CZL on the beach with a coconut on the hand... (sorry for the guys of DF)

Hi all!!!

Well..., I haven't lost my personality yet, but if I spend another minute in the books I will. As Ricardo and JoseMEX pointed out, I'm now in Cancun, about to take my professional exam (four hours from now) and also have been kind of busy with the manuals and handbooks at work... that's why I didn't post in 7 days in a row.

To all the new members, welcome to the forums! As far as I remember AaCUN is a FA for a major US airline and lives in CUN (awesome) and have been a member since a few months ago; anyway WELCOME!

From what I can see, Cancun is definitely a Mexicana airport as it has the
most flights.

As a matter of fact, it is more AA's, CO's or US's airport judging by the amount of operations these carriers have. Take it with a grain of salt, but a friend of mine at AA in CUN told me they have an average of 80 ops a week. CO and US are slightly behind!

CUN-CTM
It actually takes a bit more than four hours. More like 5 or 5.5 hours. From Cancun to Tulum the road it's nice and wide, but after that, civilization ends  Big thumbs up Also, Ricardo, FYI it is a public road, there are no tolls at all.

About the Cessnas in PCM (Playa del Carmen), they only have two operational XA-TDE and XA-SLO. The three pilots there are good friends of mine and will surely give you a free ride (upon availability), mostly from CZM to PCE.

About Ferinco, I used to work there and know the owner and pilots personally, they have great plans, but unfortunately there is a pile of paperwork they need to straighten out before they can even talk about them. However, they have a C182 and C414 fully operational now. The three remaining Let-410, Gavilan and Trislander are all storaged in PCE at their maintenance base.

Well... gotta go now., talk to all later !

I thought you could buy bus tickets at CUN airport to go to Playa del Carmen, and go straight from there. And viceversa. This not true anymore?
