New Details: Kerry's Campaign Plane

Wed May 26, 2004 3:47 am

Hey guys.. we've seen some pictures of John Kerry's 752 that he's using for his campaign, but I found some details about it from the Associated Press (AP). Thought you'd be interested...

"John Kerry's presidential campaign is scheduled for takeoff Tuesday on a new plane designed for work and some play.

The Boeing 757-200 includes two conference tables, eight phone lines, a copy machine, a printer and a power outlet in every seat for laptops and cell phone charging. It also has a standup bar for socializing.

The plane is emblazoned "John Kerry for President" and can seat 94 in five cabins. The first cabin is for Kerry, a second contains the conference tables, a third for his staff and the last two seat the media and Secret Service.

Kerry has been using several chartered planes while waiting for his own to be finished. Most recently, he was sharing a plane with the band Fleetwood Mac."

Seems like he's got a taste for nice aircraft!

Also, CNN just reported that Kerry's named it "Hair France."

One would almost be convinced that Kerry is running for French President at the rate that the idiots here talk about Kerry & France.

I'm not being sarcastic here. Kerry jokingly referred to it as "Hair France" because of the number of morons who made commentary about his hair and ties with France. I'm fairly moderate myself, so I'm hardly one of the neoCon hacks who float around the non-av forum (and we know who they are) who take whatever Rush, Sean, and Ann says and run with it. I just thought it awesome that Kerry could self-efface like that and thought I'd report the name that KERRY HIMSELF is referring to it as.

John Kerry & Fleetwood Mac..... I was lucky enough to see the inside of Fleetwood's 727 and its a great aircraft. Has a great stand up bar (holds 3 5lb bags of ice) and an awesome staff that let us tour the whole plane!
Hey Obama, keep the change! I want my dollar back.

It flew DCA-PDX as TZ711 - not sure if it'll keep the flightnumber throughout the lease.

Thanks CPH-R

Funny question. Is Transmeridian a US-based company? It's got a US registration of course on the plane, but the company sure sounds South American.

never mind:

TransMeridian Airlines is a leading U.S. charter airline, operating under U.S. Department of Transportation FAR Part 121. The company, based in Atlanta, Georgia, was founded in 1995. TransMeridian has traditionally flown on behalf of the nation’s largest tour operators from the upper Midwest and Northeast to points in the Caribbean and Mexico. TransMeridian is regulated by the FAA and meets the same exact maintenance and safety standards as any Major U.S. airline. The difference between TransMeridian and these larger airlines is how we sell to the public. Under Department of Transportation regulations, charter airlines like TransMeridian must escrow each passenger’s funds paid in advance of travel into a federally approved escrow account until that passenger has traveled. This provides for maximum consumer protection.

TransMeridian’s current fleet consists of the following three types of aircraft: the Boeing 727-200 Advanced; the Boeing 757-200ER; and the Boeing MD-80. Since its founding, TransMeridian has safely carried well over one million passengers to over 150 destinations primarily within the United States, Mexico, South America and the Caribbean.

Of course, that's nothing new, but keep in mind that I'm paying for that, along with the rest of the American tax-payers here.

Rush Limbaugh has linked to one of the above photos in his John F'n Kerry Stack of Stuff at RushLimbaugh.com! Sorry, it's in the 24/7 stack so you have to be a subscriber to check it out.

I think the 757 is an ideal plane for a US presidential candidate. It has the range to fly anywhere in the US and can carry a good amount of people, be they campaign staffers or media.

A.net makes the 2004 Presidential race!

cheers, Ralph

Also, the taxpayers do not pay for Air Force One while President Bush is on trips that are not considered official (state) business. Instead, Bush/Cheney 2004 pay the government for the use of AF1 to transport Bush to fundraisers.

Hopefully, I can make the run down to BED to see this plane (Kerry has been using BED when he comes back to the Boston area).

First, I am not a Bush supporter but it should be pointed out that the Bush Campaign actually has to pay the US Government to use Air Force One for campaigning. It is not an actual reimbursement but the amount equal to several first class seats on a regular airline. Obviously the president can't fly on a regular airline so he is forced to use Air Force One. This has been consistent with Reagan, Bush I and Clinton. When Hillary was campaigning for Senate she had to pay the government for use for aircraft to transport her to and from New York.

But the real question is: What is Ralph Nader flying?

Will they repaint or add Kerry's running mate's name once he chooses one?

"Obviously the president can't fly on a regular airline..."

Not true, there is past precedence for a sitting president to have traveled on a scheduled airline flight (admittedly only once)...

Yup - Nixon flew on a scheduled flight (not sure which airline) to the West Coast.

Too bad Kerry didn't decide to use an Airbus. What a great scandal that would be, especially after Bush got flak for riding around in a Canadian bus.

hehehehe.

Here we go. Nixon flew UA 55, a DC-10 from DC to LAX in 1973.

It was my understanding that the sitting President's campaign merely reimburses the government the price of a first class ticket for each member of his campaign staff, and himself.

Therefore, taxpayers still pay a big part of the cost of operation AF1 during campaign trips.
