Transportation Between MIA And FLL?

Wed May 26, 2004 10:50 pm

Hi everybody,

I'm flying to MIA this Friday and my hotel is located in Fort Lauderdale (long story why...).
Could anybody tell me whether there's a scheduled bus from MIA to FLL (the hotel is nearby)
or whether any shuttle companies have services from MIA to hotels in Fort Lauderdale?
I understand taking a taxi will be quite expensive.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tony

http://www.tri-rail.com

Approx fare is 2.00, I have taken it once, it is pretty good. You have to leave from Miami airport though, I have no idea about where in FLL you want to go, there are 2 stations there

Investigate the SuperShuttle service. You can catch it at the lower level of MIA baggage claim

its only an 18 mile drive, yet it takes Tri Rail 45 minutes to an hour to do it.

in Ft. Lauderdale, you have the Tri Rail station on Griffin Road (across the highway from the Sheraton/Wyndham), Broward Blvd Station, and Cypress Creek Station (Andrews & Cypress/McNab along 95)

I can help you out about FLL & MIA and we know all about where are you going. If you want to catch on the tri-rail from Ft. Lauderdale Airport station and it is very good cheaper ticket on the tri-rail or if you want to take use with Airport Shuttle.

Yes Nate,

I know where it is at the hotel on Griffin Rd and it is very close with tri-rail station and you can take a short walk over to Sheraton or new hotel.

I highly doubt there is any air service b/w MIA-FLL...not economically feasible.
The next generation of aircraft is just around the corner!

Everyone,

Thank you very much for all the replies! They have all been extremely useful!

The hotel where I'l'l be staying is the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale. The address is
1617 Southeast 17th Street Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 USA.

I called up the SuperShuttle and they quoted me a $27 fare to take me door to door
and I think that's what I will do.

Again, thanks very much for all the replies!

Gulfstream Airlines flies FLL-MIA (they do not fly MIA-FLL, however).

Does Mears offer service from MIA? I know they are big in MCO.

I'll be in the Renaissance this weekend, too!

Well, first of all, welcome to Miami and enjoy.

The super shuttle is $23 to the airport and then there is a free shuttle to the renisance, so not quite a difference between that and direct to the hotel. I would recommend a limo service, or car service...however, due to MIA's ignorance they have to pay $80 to even serve the airport, whcih means around $60+ one way!

Now, you are in luck right now. I have stayed at that Rennisance and in the 7 years i lived away from FLL, all but once I have stayed in that area.
So here is the scoop for you and AAndrew... (AAndrew, are you staying on the 17th street or the Pine Island Road one?)
1) the jetblue pilots stay at that hotel! The coolest thing about my stays in FLL by far! jetBlue overnights 3 planes and then they have one redeye, so a total of 4 crews stay there per day!
I can give you any info on the area if you want to e-mail me!

SNATH, Aa757first...

How much did you guys get a hotel for? I'm flying into MIA on Fri too and will probably take the TriRail up to FLL. Yep it is cheap and with a shuttle to and from the airport and then a shuttle to your hotel.

I was curious how much the hotel was for a night as i'm not yet sure what hotel i'm going to take... (Looking for something pretty cheap and near the airport/may even have free airport shuttle!) I'm taking an early morning flight on Sat to RDU so hoping you guys can give me some info on that.

Thankx

If you are taking a cruise they will provide bus service from MIA to FLL so you can get the ship in the port. But otherwise I would look at a shuttle service or car rental or something. Yeah EA used to fly MIA-FLL so did DL, TW and 3M back in the day, but I believe there is no more of that.

Anair80...I can tell you, the Renaisannce is a really good deal. It has always been as it opened maybe right before 9/11, so it never did well until this winter. But summer rates are good anywhere (not the in season, so now is the time to visit!). How does $129 for a Quality room or $189 for a Junor Suite (with living area and jacuzzi)?
I just remembered a couple of things about the Rennisance hotel:
1) there is a resturant...hear the food is good. They do serve a normal breakfast, however I stayed on the club level (which is AMAZING...great views of Downtown as well as a nice TV...oh and the food's good, too!), so didn't eat it. Additionally, there is a bar right next to check in.
2) There is a standard work out room and pool...the pool can get noisy as it is right on 17th street. (Shaded by trees)
3) When I was there, there was a sign that says "Gift Shop"...but there was not. I believe they were going to put one in, but if you cannot find one, don't ask as there probably isn't.
4) If you gotta do business, there is a full service business center!
Additionally, there is a Rennisance in Plantation (in the landing path, but I cannot guarentee a good view of the planes). It is off of I95 at Pine Island and that is as low as $89/night.

NOW, if you want VIEWS... I suggest the Marriott Marina! The Renisannce on the beach DOES NOT FACE THE AIRPORT! However, the Marriott, if you get a SEAPORT VIEW on the top 3 floors HAS A SPECTACULAR view, and you get full tower frequency...not to mention a view of the cruise ships or cargo ships. There is a quality room...non view...for $129...I believe that non room is the port, but just to be on the safe side they have water views for as low as $139 a night. Call ahead and see which rates apply to the port views. This hotel is worth EVERY PENNY that you pay! The view is amazing, my #1 spotting hotel in Borward County! They have a great pool, with a poolside bar/grill. They serve starbucks and bagles etc in the lobby in the morning...they have a GREAT gift shop...and they have an AWESOME waterfront resturant. You can see the Ychats (some of the best Ychats in SOUTH FLORIDA, which is a high honor, park at the Mariott Marina...in fact, one of the best in the WORLD, which was on the Travel Channel parks or parked there. There is a nice path to walk and see the Ychats. Also, not sure if its still there, but they had a game room. OF course, they have a great work out room as well. It is my personal favorite hotel

Flairport and Anair80,

I go away from my computer for a couple of hours and you have this nice
conversation without me! It's not fair!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Anair80, Yes, it's also costing me $129 for a night. I just checked the Marriott
WWW site and it's still the same price. I always try to stay at Renaissance hotels
if I can. They are usually very good and good value. The Marriott rewards
programme is excellent too. I've been a Silver member for a few years now...
why change? Anyway, have a safe flight to MIA!

Flairport, Thanks very much for the info. I really appreciate it. I'm landing at MIA
pretty late in the evening and it turns out that I will miss the last train. So I
will take the SuperShuttle directly to the hotel. I also looked at the Marriott
Marina (my travel agent recommended it). But it was double the price
compared to the Renaissance... And I was not prepared to pay more!

Best regards everybody!

$45.....that's what we paid for a cab from MIA Airport to a FLL hotel. 2003. Yikes!
