I was kind of hoping DL might be more creative and launch JFK-GRU or FLL-GRU.
It would be very interesting, but I think Delta just wants to play it safe. A second ATL
is a sure bet. Going against JAL, AA
, and Varig at JFK
or trying out an FLL
non-stop is much more of a risk. MIA
is a huge O&D market (6 daily non-stops), but I wonder how many would take the option of FLL
. I personally think CVG
would be a safer bet for them than JFK
That's not really surprising considering ATL's Latin American community is growing by leaps and bounds. Wish them luck!
It has little to do with the Atlanta areas Latin community. Firstly, Brazil is technically not in "Latin" America (it's an often debated subject, though). Secondly, rapidly growing means little in raw numbers. The Latin community is still small compared to most other major cities.
I'm thinking that the new flight might be a daylight service. Increasing aircraft usage (ATL
would still have to use only two aircraft instead of four) and opening up new connecting oppurtunities.
