Bringing Your Own Smoke Hoods?

Sat Feb 12, 2000 5:41 am

Are you allowed to buy a smoke hood from a company and bring it on a plane as a carry-on in one of your bags?

As long as it doesn't utilize any compressed gas cylinder (and thus hazmat) I wouldn't see why not. I know several employees that carry some...

A quote from my FAM (Flight Attendant Manual)

"Personal smoke hoods. The smoke hood is not considered a dangerous good as long as it meets the following criteria:

- It uses an inert filtration device, usually contained in a canister or other holding device.
- it contains NO compressed gas of any sort.
- it does not use a chemical reaction to produce oxygen."

I'm sure this would be standard in the aviation industry.
Hope that's what you were looking for!
