AA Foker 100's....None Left?

Sun May 30, 2004 7:52 am

I just received my June Sky Guide in the mail....I did a quick (very quick) scan of all flights from O'Hare and Dallas and did not see any American Airlines flights using the F100. Have they retired the last of them?? Sure didn't take them long.

I believe 18 x AA F100s were sold to JetsGo the Canadian LCC. At least one of them is already in service.

Cheers!

During the past week (24-28 May) when viewing AA flights in Sabre, I found at least one route to/from ORD (believe it was ORD-LGA or ORD-DCA) for which "100" was the equipment type indicated on most, if not all, flights offered by AA in the market. At the same time, in recent weeks I have observed in Sabre flight schedule displays that Fokker 100s have become increasingly scarce in the AA system.

Tango-Bravo --

Thanks.....I did scan that dinky little print in my sky guide very fast...and you are right....ORD-LGA and ORD-DCA still show the aircraft type as 100.

Thanks again.

AA is still serving the following destinations to/from ORD using the F100:

MSP, DCA, XNA, EWR, PHL, YUL, IAH, ATL, HPN, YYZ

Got this from another thread.

ElectraBob,

ORD-LGA is all S80's - but ORD-EWR still has some F100's.

According to the last active fleet count, AA is still operating 23 F100s. Those statistics seem to be updated monthly, so it may be due another update soon.

I was in D.C. yesterday and one took off from RWY 1 at DCA, so they're most certainly still used in/out of DCA. BTW, next time you're in D.C., check out the new WWII memorial. You won't regret it.

The F100 looks to be off of the ATL-ORD route in a few days. As of June 9th, the F100s will be fully replaced by either MD-80s or EMB-145s.

I was at DFW earlier this week and saw one there sitting on a taxiway. Don't know any of the details about that flight, but I definately saw one there.

Perhaps you were mistaking an SP80 for an F100. They are pretty similar and can be difficult to tell apart at times. AA pulled all of their F100s out of DFW a while ago.

It appears, per the timetables, the last F100 flights will be on 9/7. When the 9/8 schedule change goes into affect (9/8-10/30).

9/8:

MSP -> S80, ER4, ERD
DCA -> S80
XNA -> S80, CR7, ER4, ERD
EWR -> S80
PHL -> S80, 738
YUL -> S80, ERD
IAH -> S80
ATL -> S80, ERD
HPN -> S80, 738
YYZ -> S80, 738

Not a moment too soon!

The Fokker 100's had a cheap feel to it, so much so that another (IMO) substandard airplane, the MD-80, actually looked good when compared to it!!

So if the F100 and the M80 are substandard than please tell us what aircraft are at standard and why.
Both aircraft have been ordered by the finest airlines worldwide and also in large quantities.
If a cabin looks dirt and cheap or worn out than it is a problem of the operating airline and not the aircraft. The newest aircraft can look poor in a few months if not well maintained.
In my opinion the F100 and the M80 are very good aircraft and they have proven that in thousands of flying hours.

I think it's really cool that they are upgrading Westchester (HPN) to an MD80/ 738 combo. Thought for sure that they would go regional there.

Yep, I still see them here at MSP. The MDW-LGA was recently switched to an ERJ.

A couple of weeks ago, I was searching AA.Com for flights on ORD-ATL in December, and there was 1 F100 listed flying the route. This makes some sense, because a friend of mine who flies for AA told me that management was considering pushing back retirement to the end of the year, because bookings had picked up, ORD was running into delays, and some of the Fokkers could have their C-checks pushed by by a few months.

Whether management has decided to go ahead with the retirement in September, I don't know.

They are definately still using them here at PHL. I just saw one the other day. I've always liked the F.100. Hate to see them go.

The new LCC start up EU Jet starting flights from Manston in the UK and Shannon in Ireland has purchased 8 Fokker 100's from AA, I read this in the Aircraft Illustrated (a UK aviation magazine).

Also I think another LCC called Helveltic purchased a load of Fokkers from AA.

Actually I have read you views on the MD-80 on another thread and could not disagree more. The MD-80 is one of the most well built reliable aircraft out there.

Was in ATL about 2 weeks ago and saw several F-100s at the T gates. Was in a hurry to catch a UA flight, so didn't notice where they were going.

Tekelberry:

Being an American Airlines employee, I can definately tell the difference between an F100 and a Super80. I made note of it because I know that the F100's are on their way out and found it strange to see it there. It definately was one though, for a fact. Maybe it was a maintenance ferry or what I don't know.

There was one in GRR today, a weather diversion from O'Hare. I felt lucky to be able to photograph it as I heard that they aren't much longer for this world (at least with AA).

As of last week AA had about 17 F-100's still in service. On a side note the other day four of them were out of service for various maintenance issues.

The last one is set to be retired on Sept 7th 2004. Not sure of the last route yet.....
I have only flown on it two times. MSP ORD and DTW ORD....both short flights but it was pretty comfortable. Sad to see another fleet type go though!
