It would be nice to see it come together. It looks as though the nose would come off the ground if they put the tail on right now.

Does anyone know exactly which tests will be conducted on this aircraft?

I'm confused with the main gear as well. I always thought that it was going to have a six wheel truck for the mains and four wheel trucks on the body gear. Huh, I guess not.

gawd that bird is ugly!however, think of it as a swan.ugly at birth, beautiful when mature!can't wait to see one compleated!

as for the tests, they will preform probably 100's of em.most specatacular of which is when they bend the wings upwards untill they break! when they did that on the777,the wings bent 25 feet upwards before failing!

i still don't see how this monster can get off the ground Smile/happy/getting dizzy Smile/happy/getting dizzy Nuts Laugh out loud

Huh? 88.000 lbs? Where did you get that from? The Trent 900 has 70.000 to 76.500 lbs, according to Rolls-Royce:

The Trent 900 has been run at 88,000lbs sucessfully but will be will be derated to 70,000lbs and 76,500lbs on the A380-800 and A380-800F respectively.

More specifically, 70k for the passenger version and 76k for the freighter. Could the engine produce 88k... maybe, but it will only be certified at 70,000 lbf. The GE/PW engine (GP7000) will be certified at 76k and 81k, but that's still a far cry from 88,000 lb. Where did you here this?

Read it in another topic and (I guess) it was om www.airbus.com when they tested the Trent 900 on the 343......and it stated it could go up to 88.000lbs.

You may find that interesting:

Regarding the main gear: two center gears with 3 axes/each as those of the 777 will be added...

On the evening of June 8, there will be a "Building the A380" special hosted by John Travolta (I think the History Channel in the USA). I'm sure it will be advertised more as the date approaches, so those interested might want to look out for the broadcast. Regards...Jack

What an ugly plane but still in its early birth stages! At what point in time will Airbus display the plane built in its entirety, will it be this year?

Cheers,

What spooks me most now (from these pics) is how the 550 people, sheds loads of cargo, a cinema, a shopping centre (not to mention the gym) are all going to fit into that?? Turbulence in that tube will prove that we have built a true flying machine with wings flapping up to (no more than) 25%. Looks fcuking awesome though.

OK, right now it looks ugly - just the way you guys would look with half a nose and no jaw  Smile

Incidentally, I don't think the landing gear on this test version is representative of what the complete planes will have.

Looks no bigger than a 747 with a full upperdeck, and even that i.e the 747 looks ugly with that modification.

Yeah...looks ugly now but that's what they said about the 747  Wink/being sarcastic. Yeah...it aint complete...needs a lot. Its like a building that's missing all the special stuff that makes it a million dollar house. I for once think its a beautiful piece of work. It amazes me that humans can build something like that.

Right now, it is quite scary looking. However, I am sure it will be much easier on the eyes in it's flying form. That being said, I have always thought even the artists renditions were a bit awkward looking. Something about the 747 will always be much more graceful and elegant looking to me.

All of that being said, it is great to see it rolling out.

Is it just me or are the wings angled too high for an aircraft?

Don't forget that the wings' dihedral will be lessened with the weight of four huge engines on the wings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, there has been a lot of confusion about this, even though it has been mentioned several times already. This plane is not complete! It still needs many major components INCLUDING 12 more MLG tires. However, as it seems that this airframe will only be for static ground testing, I don't know if it'll need or receive these extra bogies. Sorry, but I just had to get it off my chest.

Thats not the whole landing gear assembly. I think they just want to move it elsewhere so the just stuck some wheels on.

They may not even be the actual landing gears. Since the outer landing gear has 6 wheels in design and this one only has 4. Unless thoses are the inner ones (which i don't think so)

Still, looks very impressive

I hate to say it....but the 747 is still the most beautiful jumbo out there.

This is not a leap like when Boeing rolled out the 747 and absolutely dwarfed the 707 and DC-8.

Not only is the 747 the most beautiful, but it is also the most distinctive, as EVERYONE knows what a 747 is and looks like.

Just my two cents...er...worthless comments!!!

Well, i don't know about the 747 being the most disrinctive after the A380 comes along.

Afterall, the A380 doesn't exactly blend in with the crowd.  Laugh out loud

But anyway, surely with both the wonderful B747 and great A380 at airports soon, that will be a sight to see.

From the shape of the top, it looks like the people sitting on the upper deck may be a little more cramped than those on the bottoom, am I correct? It looks as though the windows and side panels will curve further in on the passengers as opposed to the bottom level where the windows and side walls are almost straight. Hmmm.... If so, would hate to be stuck at a window seat on the upper level of that bird for too long.

I'm sure I'm wrong though...
