Hurricane Dig In London

Mon May 31, 2004 6:43 am

There was a programme on C5 in the UK finished 8 mins ago, basically they were trying to find the remnants of a Hurricane that had brought down a German Dornier bomber.
The Hurricane pilot had ran out of ammo, and seeing the German bomber head towards Buckingham palace, the pilot flew the Hurricane right into the Dorniers tailboom, taking it clean off.
Both planes lost control, and the Hurricane pilot bailed out, as did one of the German crew (but died in Hospital).
So the Hurricane was buried under a road that was covered over, and the German aircraft had crashed near Victoria station.
Plotting the Hurricane's position, they closed off the road earlier yesterday, and began digging for the remnants of the RAF fighter.
They had until 22:30 to dig, and they recovered the Engine and a few instruments and other times.
At the same time they were uncovering a Spitfire mk14 in Germany, which had been engage by a german fighter, unfortunately the dig was abandoned due to the excess fuel and oil, but they did recover some undercarriage and other items.
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

Thanks. I went to England this past September. Did not find anyone that did not like aviation. Down to every nut and bolt, obviously. Good luck.
Cameras shoot pictures. Guns shoot people. They have the guns.

We're already discussing this in military aviation. Believe it or not, we don't bite newcomers over there.
