Hawaiian 5625 MSP-PHX....What The Hell?

Mon May 31, 2004 10:45 am

Aight, here is the situation. I was on Travelocity checkin for flights from MSN-PHX sometime in June/July and on one of them there is a connecting flight from MSP-PHX Hawaiian 5625 operated on an America West 737-200C. This sounded interesting and I chose it, but when I saw the bill it was over $1300! Not only that but you can only catch that flight out to PHX, but not on the way back! What is the deal here? I am so confused! I mean, this is like the price of a first class ticket when I just chose economy. Anybody have any information on this? Any HP workers out there know anything about this? Thanks in advance for any and all info!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

What dates did you select, it probably has something to do with that.

Like Kohflot said... Hawaiian codeshares with America West. I looked on Travelocity for those dates and it didn't mention HA from MSP-PHX at all... I'd be curious about the price too though.  Big grin

You're looking at going to Hawaii in the summer...along with thousands of other people on their summer vacation. That explains the price.

Is that something going on with the price to Hawaii flight? This is codeshare with HP to PHX and you will make connecting with HNL flight on HA. I just try to help you out with those information about Hawaiian Airlines.

All of the 5xxx flights operated by HP are HA codeshares. There are no 737-200s leaving out of MSP for PHX. If you are looking to get to PHX you may want to try NW MSN-MSP then either NW or HP MSP-PHX. Our loads (HP) in the summer from MSP-PHX are very light, and likewise returning PHX-MSP (which is a good thing for us nonrevs). If you want to take your chances on an RJ we will be starting an RJ flight on June 18th.

Yes, I am planning on taking NWA. I was just curious on this odd pricing. I looked again and it seems to have disappeared for the days I was looking but I looked again on different dates and it showed up: http://dps1.travelocity.com/airsdisp.ctl?promo_page=Y&chld_pax_cnt=0&dep_dt_dy_1=20&dep_dt_mn_1=Jun&dep_tm_1=9%3a00am&dep_dt_dy_2=22&dep_dt_mn_2=Jun&dep_tm_2=5%3a00pm&dep_arp_cd(1)=MSP&arr_arp_cd(1)=PHX&dep_arp_cd(2)=PHX&arr_arp_cd(2)=MSP&trip_option=roundtrp&cls_svc=YR&senior_pax_cnt=0&adult_pax_cnt=1&profile_ctry_cd=US&suppress_results=N&SEQ=108597530420864505302004&LANG=EN&last_pgd_page=airsdisp.pgd

Heh, sorry for the long URL, but that is the best I could do! It is option # 5.

Thanks for any additional info!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It's likely a mistake in the computer. If you do a search for MSP-HNL for only flights on Hawaiian, you can find roundtrip fares for less than $1300.

BTW, you can't link to a search. You will just go to Travelocity's main page.

Ha763, thanks for the info. Sorry, didn't know you couldn't link to a search, it worked when I tried it, LOL. Thanks again!  Big thumbs up

Heh,I was talking to the HA Agents here in PHX (they are really HP agents, but anyways) and they were saying that their flights PHX-HNL are all oversold until mid July. Obviously a very popular route. As for the flights you saw on Travelocity,as Ha763 mentioned,it was probably an error on Travelocity's part.

I suspect the reason that MSP-PHX is coming up so high is that when you break is out of the "married" PHX-HNL segment, the fare rules probably only allow it to be booked in full "Y".

It wouldn't surprise me if NW's codeshare on HP's PHX-LAX flight is incredibly expensive if not married to the LAX-NRT segment, for example.

This shows you why we're so frustrated with the current management at Hawaiian. Yes, we are in bankruptcy. But we are also offering a quality product that people want. Our president has said he'd love to have more airplanes. The fact that HA had the highest load factor in the industry for the last four months shows that we need them. But they are too busy with their noses in the bankruptcy (and trying to find the best way to personally cash in on it) to recognize that the time for expansion is NOW - that we need new planes and routes NOW. If we wait until after the bankruptcy is over the chances to capitalize on these opportunities may be gone.

Sorry; just a rant from the sidelines.

Wow, HAL, I didn't know that Hawaiian had fallen into bankruptcy! I hope you guys pull through soon, because Hawaiian really is a class act. They offer a product like no one else! Good luck!  Big thumbs up
