What Went Wrong With The Engine Markings?

Hi

I was doing a search and found this SK 737 engine shot:

The word "Scandinavian" is not matched in each part of the engine. Since the 737 engines are nor perfect circles, I don't think is just a matter on screw and unscrew the tip. So, How come the "Scan" part of the name was painted so wrongly?

it looks like they just replaced the shroud and it didn't have the scan painted on it.

OK, but didn't they know where was the right position for "Scan" placing???

Hirisk, look carefully, the "Scan" is on the shroud, on the top part, but is not even close to being aligned to "dinavian"

The reverse thrust on a 736 don't spin, they only "pull apart" like noted on the back portion of the engine. This is a nice straight on view of the 736's engines.

EDIT: Note the slight oval shape of them.

If one looks at the picture in the post directly above, on the number 1 engine, one can see looks to be a 'Scandinavian' at the 11 o'clock position (facing the engine from forward), as if to present it to passengers seated in the forward part of the aircraft.

Although the engine cowlings may not be 360° symmetrical, perhaps they are symmetrical along the y axis and as such, can be moved freely between the number 1 and number 2 engines. As such, 'Scandinavian' would be painted at the 3 o'clock position and 11 o'clock position for the number 1 engine (outer display and passenger display). However, if that front cowling is moved to the number 2 engine, the positions of the painted 'Scandinavian' (or part of it) would be misaligned with the remainder of the word on the main cowling of the number 2 engine (which would have been painted at the 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions, respectively).

Does this make any sense to you? I certainly tried. But, given that I know NOTHING about engines, I'm probably wrong. Perhaps an aircraft mechanic or design engineer could confirm or debunk my hypothesis.

I just noted in the picture I posted that on the right engine, this same thing is happening. If you look close you can only see "Scandin" and no "avian"

I think ATL2CDG has got it.... so what we are probably looking at in the original picture is a shroud that was originally painted for use on a #2 engine (whereas the SCAN would be facing the passengers).

Intersting one. SMCMAC- good pic you posted, it makes the answer easier to comprehend.

EDITED: I just realized that the 2nd pic posted has the same problem on its #2 engine.... This makes me wonder if there was simply a mixup at the paint shop that they haven't had time to fix.

You can see it in this photo that the logo is painted higher up on the inside of the cowling

so it looks like ATL2CDG is right and it's just a replacement cowling originally intended for the other engine.  Smile

A small point, but it is called a nose cowl or inlet cowl
