The True Worlds Busiest Airports

Sat Feb 12, 2000 10:59 am

Obviously I have a lot of time on my hands so here is a list of the busiest airports in the world.Factoring in the surrounding airports for the city.
#1 L.A 1.821.799
#2 Chicago 1.174.756
#3 New York 1.174.596
#4 Dallas 1.072.640
#5 Miami 984.637
#6 D.C 970.370
#7 San Francisco 938.674
#8 Atlanta 846.881
#9 Houston 703.956
these are all just takeoff and landing numbers from the 1998 stats what do you think?

I think that any stats based on city rather than airport specific are going to be wrong because they can't and don't measure VFR traffic at uncontrolled fields. I think that the DOT regular ranking ATL, ORD,DFW etc. is as accurate as you can get. The numbers for total traffic above are fine but they may not be totally correct.

Which airport exactly are you talking about???
eg:
NY - LGA or JFK or EWR?
DC - DCA or IAD?

You might want to be more specific - obviously, there's more than one busy airport in cities like NYC, Washington DC.

If as your heading states you are measuring busiest airports and not cities your entire data model is flawed. Hence I do not agree with your method or results. If you are measuring busiest cities then you need to define more... IE London do you include gatwick, heathrow, city, stansted, other? Gen Aviation, Cargo, Commercial????

How about Chicago. Meigs, Gary, O hare Midway what others....

Very misleading....

Cool, Then just rename it cities with the most traffic, or most operations or something... Wasn't trying to be a jerk... (comes naturally) LOL

That is pretty interesting I have always assumed that New York was the busiest region, and the Washington area airports are a little bit of a surprise,I mean with their numbers combined you would probably guess their numbers would be a little higher. The Miami numbers are more than what I would put them at.Try to come up with pax numbers combined.

I think that if you are talking about airports in one city London wins this hands down:

Heathrow
Gatwick
City
Stansted
Luton

Definitely very busy.

Is that 'the world's busiest airports' or 'USA's busiest airports' ?
