AY still flying them . They have around 5. Eva Air is still operating, how many ? I am not very sure. If I am not wrong, JL's MD-11s are phrased out.

For cargo operators: FedEX, UPS, Korean Air, Lufthansa Cargo and EVA Air Cargo.

Did I miss out any?

I just saw a Swiss MD-11 take off from ORD today! (Monday) I thought they were all replaced by A340-300's like I saw @ LAX in Dec. Beautiful sight, too!

Not to forget Finair!

@UnitedFan, Swiss has a mix of 343 and M11 to ORD, normally like that:
M 343
T M11
W M11
T M11
F 343
S 343
S M11
An M11 on M is weird though...
This will keep on until at least July or even September, afaik, their web says more about that topic. I think their M11 will keep the Eastbound routes from ZRH a little longer until more 343 are on stock...

Delta still owns like 3-5 MD-11's...but they aren't in service currently. I think this has been discussed in other posts, but is the rumor true that DL may be bringing their MD11's back soon?

Yes, I understand DL still has a few examples in storage. I had the pleasure of flying their MD-11's to and from LGW last year...what a fantastic experience! When asked why Delta was disposing of them, a flight attendant said they were "too big", yet both flights I was on were booked solid!!

Finnair's 6th MD11, OH-LGF, is due to enter service today, operating AY 051 to Beijing Capital. No idea if the plan has changed as one aircraft was damaged yesterday at JFK when some ground equipment hit one of the engines. AY 006 is thus scheduled to land 13 hours late at HEL.

Unless things have changed very recently, Delta still has 13 of its MD11's. 13 are still listed on their website, and their annual report states that the only two disposed of have been via sublease to World Airways. The annual report also states that the MD11 retirement is "temporary", so there's at least some chance the tri-jets will be returned to service in the future.

A World Airways/Sonair MD-11 is a regular at IAH. Saw it just last Wednesday heading off to I believe to Luanda, Angola. At least that is where it used to fly.

7E72004
The major differences between the two are of course a totally updated EFIS "glass cockpit" Refined Wings with more seepback, larger fuel capacity, New up-rated powerplants, and smaller Horizontal stabilizers. Also it is a good 20 feet longer than its older brother, als! more capacity! You can see the difference upon takeoff tith those CF6-80Fs!! Its also a much more effiecient aircraft, for long haul ops., with a much higher dispatch reliability.
Long live the MD-11!!

Airfleets.com is the best and most concise source for this information...they say 151 still active. However, they don't cover some of the older types, does anyone know of a similar online source?

Delta "retired" the MD-11 supposedly to simplify the fleet, and reduce MX costs. Given those reasons I'd be surprised if they brought them back, but if the demand is there it would certainly be cheaper than buying new planes. Given how short a time they were in the fleet, I'd question whether they were even paid for yet.
