Investing In Boeing?

Wed Jun 02, 2004 9:35 am

Hi everyone,

I'm somewhat new to the world of investing but I was wondering if any of you could offer opinions or advice on investing in Boeing. Is it worth it? And how much of an impact do you think upcoming 7E7 orders will have on Boeing stock?

If Boeing looses the KC-767 order, or it is shelved for more investigation, then you can expect to see BA (BA = Boeing stock symbol) stock drop significantly, which of course would be a great time to buy as they are expecting orders for the 7E7 from several new customers in the near future which would hopefully push the stock up. Thats the short term. For the long term, BA is probably not going to be the strongest stock, but it seems that it will probably slowly gain ground in the next few years as airlines continue to recover. At least, this is what I've gathered from reading various articles on the subject.

Investing in individual issues is always a risky game... best left to professionals.

Its much safer to invest in managed funds. There are some that favor transportation stocks.

I agree with that, invest in a diversified portfolio if you do it yourself, but aeronautics are probably good for the long term because while it often is quite up and down, in the long run it is growing.

Gigneil and AGrayson514,

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll take it into consideration. I think a mutual fund sounds a bit more secure. Know of any aviation related funds?

Thanks,

If I knew how to go about it, I'd likely invest in BOTH Boeing and EADS/Airbus. Surely one would be prospering even when the other's down. I know that's HARDLY a sound investment strategy but with a passion for aeronautics, I'd like to think I'd be helping to further the cause. Of course, it would also be nice if I made money, myself, unlike the slight bath I took (thank God it wasn't more) on the apparently moribund private launch vehicle developer, General Astronautics. Remember the Urania launch vehicle? Didn't think so. To former CEO Jerome Wright, wherever you are: Your company was a 'lead-balloon' and I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!  Angry

I would say that right now is a pretty good time to invest in Boeing. There's no way boeing is going down. Even if the commercial part goes down (it won't !) they still have the military sector to compete in. And I say that unless the 380 does not prove itself (see what happened to the 346's), there is no real threat to Boeing. Also I see a good market for the 7Lr's, and obviously the 7E7, which will then eventually evolve like all other series...... extended range, increased gross weight etc. etc.

If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going !
